As a member of the board, you will help guide the organization through an era of exciting growth and transformation — including the fundraising, and realization of Canada’s first Animal Wellness Hub – a one-stop, affordable, all-inclusive, walk-in shelter, hospital and community space that will transform our existing campus. The ideal candidate will demonstrate they:&nbsp;● have a genuine passion for animal welfare and community service&nbsp;● are established leaders and community philanthropists with executive leadership experience (C-suite preferred)&nbsp;● have previous board experience&nbsp;● aren’t afraid of ambitious goals&nbsp;● bring strategic thinking to complex challenges&nbsp;● have strong networks throughout Hamilton, Burlington and surrounding areas&nbsp;● enjoy contributing to a team&nbsp;● have a purpose-driven approach to governance&nbsp;● have integrity and a commitment to ethical leadership&nbsp;● have the capacity to dedicate a minimum of 10 hours per month to board and committee work&nbsp;● reside in the greater Hamilton/Burlington area (this is preferred but not mandatory)&nbsp;Experience in one or more of the following areas is especially valued:&nbsp;● non-profit leadership and governance&nbsp;● finance, law, or accounting&nbsp;● fundraising, philanthropy, or marketing&nbsp;● capital projects, construction, or real estate development&nbsp;● veterinary care, animal welfare, or community health&nbsp;● human resources, equity, or organizational development&nbsp;This is a board position that matters. As an HBSPCA Board Member, you will:&nbsp;● guide organizational strategy with a focus on innovation&nbsp;● oversee president and CEO performance and succession planning&nbsp;● provide financial oversight and risk management expertise&nbsp;● connect your professional network to our mission&nbsp;● support fundraising initiatives&nbsp;Key Responsibilities&nbsp;● Governance &amp; Strategy: Provide strategic oversight to ensure the organization’s mission, vision, and long-term sustainability are advanced.&nbsp;● Leadership Through Growth: Contribute to the HBSPCA’s strategic plan as we deliver the “Unleash Love” campaign and establish our new facility.&nbsp;● Financial Stewardship: Oversee financial performance and ensure the responsible management of resources.&nbsp;● Fund Development: Act as an ambassador for the HBSPCA’s mission and campaign goals — supporting fundraising efforts through advocacy, personal commitment, and community engagement.&nbsp;● Community Engagement: Promote awareness of the HBSPCA’s programs, impact, and values within your personal and professional networks.&nbsp;● Board Participation: Attend regular/special board and committee meetings, engage in key initiatives, and participate in events and strategic projects.&nbsp;Term and Commitment&nbsp;● Preparation for and attendance at quarterly board meetings and up to two additional meetings focused on specific projects such as strategic renewal, board effectiveness or governance training. ● Committee participation based on expertise (finance/risk/audit or governance).&nbsp;● 3-year term with possibility of renewal.&nbsp;● Participation at key fundraising and community events.&nbsp;● Meaningful personal financial contribution (at a level comfortable for you).&nbsp;Why Join the HBSPCA Board?&nbsp;● The HBSPCA stands at a pivotal moment in our 138-year history. Can you commit four (4) hours per week to providing psychosocial support to a child in need? Join Nankind and help lessen the impact of cancer on families by offering in-home childcare support.&nbsp;How You Can Help:&nbsp;<ul><li>Provide psychosocial support to help children develop coping skills and build resilience.&nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li>Provide fun, educational, creative, and safe experiences for children.&nbsp;</li><li>Commit to a minimum of six (6) months to ensure stability during a parent’s cancer treatment and recovery.&nbsp;</li><li>Offer four (4) hours of childcare support per week to the same family in your area.&nbsp;</li></ul>Why Volunteer with Nankind?&nbsp;&nbsp;Nankind offers a meaningful and rewarding opportunity for volunteers who want to make a real difference in the lives of families affected by cancer.
