The John Howard Society of Niagara is seeking three volunteer board members to join our 

Board of Directors Members at Large. 

About Us:
Founded in 1949, the John Howard Society of Niagara (JHSoN) is a non-profit organization 

dedicated to preventing crime and supporting people affected by the justice system. 

We offer programs focused on rehabilitation, reintegration, reducing recidivism and promote

safer communities. 

As an Affiliate of John Howard Society of Ontario and 19 provincial offices, we operate

out of St. Catharines, Welland, Niagara Falls, and Fort Erie with a team of 65 staff.

We’re proud to be a Living Wage Champion and are funded by various federal, provincial 

and municipal partners and private donations.

We are seeking Board members to be a part of a diverse Board of Directors. 

Previous governance experience will be considered a strong asset.

Commitment
Board members serve a 2-year term, with eligibility for re-appointment for additional terms. 

As the highest leadership body of the organization and to satisfy its fiduciary duties, the

board is responsible for:

 Leading on diversity: provide leadership on diversity for the organization 

 Ensuring strong financial stewardship: faithfully read and understand the organization’s

 financial statements and board materials in advance of meetings

 Executive Performance: selecting, supporting, and evaluating the performance of the

 The Board meets 9 times per year with breaks over the summer. Approximate time 

 commitment is 2-3 hours per month and attendance at the Annual General Meeting

Summary:The Program Manager works within the context of Quest CHC’s interdisciplinary team model and the Centre’s Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions, to provide leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating responsive primary health care.The position manages Quest CHC programs, providing support, coordination and supervision for an interdisciplinary staff team in a comprehensive, collaborative manner with an emphasis on health promotion, education and community capacity building.Reporting to the Program Director, the Program Manager represents and promotes the Centre by participating in various community activities and contributes to the overall management of the Community Health Centre.&nbsp;Responsibilities:<ol><li>Ensure that the philosophy and strategic directions of the CHC are integrated into the development, and implementation of programs. </li><li>Actively promote and participate in community planning and initiatives and make recommendations and implement programming to maximize service responsiveness.</li><li>Participate in recruiting, building and maintaining a unified, high performing interdisciplinary teams.</li><li>Ensure&nbsp;adequate program coverage through effective scheduling, and that program planning and budgeting reflect available resources.&nbsp; Oversee performance and absence management using a web-based system and ensuring timely and constructive feedback and input&nbsp;to performance reviews. </li><li>Develop and coordinate program evaluations to ensure new and existing programs meet client needs, incorporate best practices as well as address contractual commitments and budget requirements.</li><li>Develop as well as assist staff in developing funding proposals.&nbsp; Coordinate submission of proposals including appropriate approvals.&nbsp; Maintain awareness of funding opportunities as well as Centre/Ministry/funders’ requirements.</li><li>Maintain appropriate communications within and between various departments and programs within the Centre and participate on various internal committees.</li><li>Oversee the implementation of mandatory training requirements as per Ministry compliance or CHC requirements. Manage employee training activities such as planning, approval, budgeting for internal and external training events.</li><li>Provide leadership and support with client feedback including meeting with the client and follow up.</li><li>Act as the Centre’s Privacy Officer. The Young Caregivers Association 
 Established in 2003, the Young Caregivers Association (YCA) has transformed the lives of 
young caregivers, the unseen population of family caregivers. We’re the first organization and 
registered charity in Canada dedicated to supporting young caregivers and their families who 
live in rural and urban communities, while building awareness across Canada. 
 
Young caregivers are children, youth, and young adults ages 5 to 25 who provide care for a 
family member due to a chronic illness, disability, mental health concern, substance misuse, or 
socioeconomic factor (e.g., a language barrier). Young caregivers help their family members in 
various ways by caring for their siblings or providing personal, emotional, or financial support. 
 
We collaborate with community partners to bring specialized programs and expertise to 
professionals and organizations across Canada, giving them the tools they need to positively 
impact children, youth and young adults.

Our vision is to see young caregivers and their families recognized, supported, and empowered 
in Ontario so they are all able to achieve their full potential. 
 
 
YCA is currently accepting applications from qualified candidates for volunteer Board Members 
to support the strategic oversight of operations while focusing on sustainability, expansion, and 
excellence. The successful candidate is elected for a three-year term. It is expected that Board 
Members will attend regular board meetings and sit on at least one Board committee. Board 
meetings take place monthly in the evening and are held in person and through Zoom. 
Attendance at committee meetings is required. A typical month requires about 10 hours of time.
