The Thunderbird Neighbourhood Association is a non-profit organization that is made up of volunteer board members to assist with the governance of its board policies and procedures when it comes to offering recreation programs at Thunderbird Community Centre, 2311 Cassiar Street, in East Vancouver.&nbsp;Thunderbird Community Centre is jointly operated by the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation and the Thunderbird Neighbourhood Association.&nbsp;In the past, the Association has been instrumental in fundraising to expand the building to include a second floor in the 90s. Today, the Association works with the Park Board staff to provide recreational, educational, cultural and social programming to those that live in our community and beyond. With each passing decade, there are subtle changes that suggest gentrification is occurring and programming is shifting due to these demographics. Groups meet once weekly for 90 minute sessions during weekday afternoons at schools/community centres and engage in life skills, communication, and social-emotional discussions to encourage healthy life-long habits. The program is led by 2-3 mentors to a group of Littles and runs once a season for 8 to 10 weeks. Our Group Mentors are<ul><li>Male, trans, and gender diverse individuals who are 18+.</li><li>Reliable, consistent, dedicated, and respectful of others.</li><li>Available to meet once weekly for 90-minute sessions from Monday to Friday between 2:30pm and 4:30pm.</li></ul>Our Game On! volunteers are asked to enroll in two 8 week terms as it's the best way to experience this fun program. Our Group Mentees are<ul><li>Boys, trans, and gender diverse children and youth in grades 4 to 7.</li><li>Youth who could benefit from building self-confidence and learning healthy lifestyle choices.</li></ul>Locations: Schools and community centres across Greater Vancouver. Our&nbsp;In-School Mentoring Program&nbsp;pairs you with one elementary school student who you share common interests with. Matches spend one-hour once per week together on school grounds doing non-academic activities such as playing sports, games, creating art or just hanging out at the playground. Our matches are paired for the duration, or remainder, of the academic school-year. Deadline to apply to volunteer in this program for this school year is Feb 1, 2026.
