About Us:

Canadian Center for Women’s Empowerment (CCFWE) is a national registered non-profit organization dedicated to empowering domestic violence survivors to recover from economic abuse through awareness, education, and policy change. We work in partnership to ensure women have access to and control over their own economic resources. We focus on four strategic priorities: economic empowerment and financial equity; education and awareness; research on economic abuse; and policy influencing and system change. Our aim is to ensure that policy and practice recognize economic abuse so that victim-survivors are supported to achieve economic justice and abusers are held accountable for their behaviour.

Are you passionate about social justice and using storytelling to create meaningful change?

CCFWE is seeking four (4) creative and committed volunteers with experience in purpose-driven communications to join us as Social Justice Writers.

The volunteers will work with our team to develop compelling stories and written content that reflect the tone, message, and goals of CCFWE’s economic justice work. These positions offer an opportunity to contribute directly to projects that positively impact women victims and survivors across Canada.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop stories and written content for websites, newsletters, blogs, media releases, and other communication platforms.
• Research and propose story ideas and headlines that reflect the interests and needs of CCFWE’s audiences.
• Interview or gather information from CCFWE’s policy, research, program, and leadership teams.
• Transform research findings, policy information, and survivor-informed insights into accessible and engaging content.
• Pitch articles and opinion pieces to relevant publishers, newspapers, magazines, and online platforms.
• Edit and proofread content to ensure accuracy, clarity, consistency, and alignment with CCFWE’s voice.
• Support the development of content that raises awareness of economic abuse, gender-based violence, economic justice, and women’s economic security.
• Manage assignments independently and meet agreed-upon deadlines.

Qualifications

• Post - secondary education or equivalent experience, in human rights, law, women’s and gender studies, international development, social work, journalism, communications, or a related field.
• Two to three years of relevant writing, communications, journalism, advocacy, or nonprofit experience is preferred.
• Strong writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to engage and inspire different audiences.
• Experience writing for websites, blogs, newsletters, media outlets, or advocacy campaigns.
• Knowledge of marketing and communication strategies.
• Strong research, editing, proofreading, and fact-checking skills.
• Demonstrated project coordination skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
• Ability to work independently with limited daily supervision.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Good time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize, schedule, and adapt as needed.
• Proficiency with Google Docs and Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Level of Commitment

Location: Remote and home-based

Time Commitment: Approximately 5 hours per week

Duration: September 1 to December 15, 2026

Minimum Commitment: Minimum four months

Schedule: Flexible and established in collaboration with the selected volunteers

Requirements: Consistent weekly participation, timely communication, attendance at agreed-upon meetings, and completion of assigned writing responsibilities and deadlines

In your cover letter, please describe your interest in economic justice and social-impact writing, any relevant experience, and how your writing approach aligns with CCFWE’s work. Writing samples may include articles, blog posts, reports, campaign content, academic work, or other relevant materials.

We will consider writing and editing skills, attention to tone and audience, the ability to communicate sensitive topics with care, and a demonstrated commitment to equity and social justice.
