As a crew member, you'll experience the close community that forms aboard the SALTS ships, meaningful work with young people, and plenty of opportunities to grow your skills—in both life and sailing!&nbsp;About SALTS Professional Crew Roles&nbsp;Crew-employment can be full-time year-round (with paid vacation days) unless seasonal work (additional winter time off without pay) is preferred. Our sailing season runs from March through October. We generally require a commitment to remain in a crew role for the duration of our sailing season, though we are currently seeking both full-time and part-time (relief) Captains. Our trips explore the BC coast, from the Gulf Islands all the way to Haida Gwaii, and trips range from 4-10 days each depending on the time of year. During the off-season, new crew members take training courses to prepare for the upcoming seasons, while existing crew are able to use vacation time and prepare/maintain our schooners.&nbsp;In the spring and fall our crew-members are typically at sea 4 nights and 5 days per week, and on shore (and off work) 3 nights and 2 days per week. There is also a paid week off at the end of June and a week off at the start of September, plus paid vacation days for use in the winter. In July/August we do 9-night voyages followed by 4-5 nights (3-4 days) off work. Our Captains receive additional time off in keeping with the high level of responsibility they hold.&nbsp;We welcome applicants year-round and sometimes fill vacancies mid season. Position Summary: 
Reporting to the Senior Director, Policy Planning and Investment, the Officer plays a key role in the overall 
stewardship of United Way East Ontario’s community investment in front line programs and services, 
community wide initiatives, and special gifts. 
 
This entails supporting the Community Investment team in accurate administration, tracking, and reporting of 
information related to community investment such as funding decisions, financial details, third party 
investments, agency/program site visit coordination, and application/program report data. It also includes the 
integration of information from the Research and Evaluation team to be used for internal planning purposes 
and external communication processes to various stakeholders. Finally, it includes accountability for the 
systems administration of our information and/or grant management systems. The Officer also provides 
administrative support to the Senior Director. 
 
The Officer will play a key role in the coordination of all aspects of the Call for Proposals (CFP) process 
including but not limited to responding to general questions about the Call for Proposals process, preparing 
and tracking funding agreements, tracking program reports, etc. 
 
This position is based in Ottawa but serves Prescott-Russell, Ottawa, Lanark, and Renfrew Counties. This is 
a hybrid position with two days per week on-site. 
 
 

Qualifications: 

Education: 

 • Post-secondary diploma/degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience 
 

Experience: 

 • 3-5 years experience in office administration 
 • Sound knowledge of the social service sector in Ottawa 
 • Experience in project management 
 • 2+ years working with databases to track funding agreements and reporting

The OrganizationShelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free of violence.Volunteering at Shelter Movers means contributing to a mission that will make a meaningful impact on families experiencing abuse and supporting survivors as they transition to a life free of violence. It also means playing a role in ending gender-based violence. We are growing and looking to add caring, compassionate, and dependable people to our team.The RoleMovers and Drivers are the backbone of the organization, as they carry out the mission on the ground by moving clients’ belongings to safety. In a group of 2-7 movers/drivers, guided by a detailed itinerary, volunteers will load/unload the client’s belongings into a vehicle and transport the client to the predetermined location. Rental vehicles are provided for the move, and movers who have a valid driver’s license are welcome to register as drivers. &nbsp;This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to make a significant impact through volunteering their time in a hands-on capacity for small chunks of time. The duration of each move varies, with an average of about 4-4.5 hours long from the vehicle rental pick-up time. Each move will be characterized based on the risk level and accordingly be escorted by local police, security guards, or neither. Our moves will often entail driving within and sometimes outside of the city. Further information will be shared with volunteers on a per-move basis. With our flexible volunteering model, you can sign up to volunteer on moves according to your availability.
