Are you passionate about using your skills to help make Canadian cities more sustainable? Would you like to join a team with a clear focus and goals? THE OPPORTUNITY Biosphere Eco-Cities Canada (BECC) is seeking few new volunteers for our fundraising team. Current members are keen and performing well. Yet, someone with broad fundraising experience would be a great asset. The current focus of the team is on obtaining funding for a youth climate action project to take place in five Canadian Cities. Funding of core costs is also being pursued. BACKGROUND A Biosphere Eco-City (BEC) is an urban-centred region where teams educate and engage people in activities to develop a culture of sustainability. BEC Canada (BECC) is a national charity that supports development of BECs in Ottawa, Toronto, Brampton, Edmonton, and Vancouver. ORGANIZATION OF THE FUNDRAISING TEAM The Team is divided into sub-teams for Grants Research, Core Support, Partnerships, and Writing. The team normally meets monthly online and sub-teams may also meet separately. There is a strong link to the BECC Project Development Team. COMMITMENT Volunteers are expected to dedicate 3-4 hours per week, including team meetings. The time is flexible around other personal commitments. This role supports the implementation of the KFN Land Code and preparation for the transition to a Treaty governance environment, overseeing land use policy, environmental regulation, and enforcement frameworksWhat You’ll Do<ul><li>Provide strategic leadership in lands governance, planning, and policy development</li><li>Oversee land use, environmental protection, and registry system transition to Treaty governance</li><li>Coordinate with legal, engineering, and planning consultants and funding agencies</li><li>Foster relationships with government partners and regulatory bodies</li><li>Mentor Lands staff and lead departmental development aligned with Nation priorities</li><li>Oversee leases, land acquisition/divestment, and development opportunities</li><li>Negotiate development agreements, MOUs, leases, and contracts in collaboration with legal and financial advisors</li><li>Prepare funding proposals and represent KFN in external negotiations and community development discussions</li></ul>What you Bring<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in Land Use Planning, Environmental Science, Resource Management, or related field (or equivalent experience/lived experience)</li><li>7+ years of relevant experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role</li><li>Strong knowledge of Land Code, land tenure systems, and Indigenous land governance</li><li>Experience working with Indigenous governments and familiarity with First Nations governance in BC</li><li>Cultural sensitivity and awareness of historical and contemporary Indigenous contexts</li><li>Excellent communication, negotiation, and team leadership skills</li><li>High emotional intelligence and proven ability to build respectful relationships</li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and office equipment including printers, plotters, and projectors</li></ul>Why Join K’omoks First Nation?This is a pivotal time for K’ómoks First Nation as we move toward treaty implementation and self-government.
