Volunteer Board Member, Youth Opportunities Unlimited

We don’t have a mold for you to fit. We have a mission for you to join!

We believe stronger decisions are made when people with different experiences, backgrounds, and ways of thinking come together around a shared purpose.

We value the diverse talents, unique insights, and personal stories that make you who you are. Why? Because the young people we serve are not one size fits all, and the leadership guiding our organization shouldn't be either.

Build a community where youth are embraced, empowered, and thrive Be bold. Be authentic. Be YOU.

Who We Are

Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU) is a connected system of support and opportunity for young people across London and Middlesex County. Through housing, employment, education, mental health, food security, social enterprise initiatives, and primary healthcare partnerships, we support young people to build stability, confidence, and achieve their goals. Together with our staff, volunteers, community partners, and supporters, we are building a community where youth are embraced, empowered, and thrive.

Who You Are

We are looking for true collaborators with previous governance experience or an eagerness to learn. We encourage applications from individuals whose perspectives and experiences will contribute to a culture of inclusion, thoughtful governance, and informed decision-making.

Youth Opportunities Unlimited is intentionally building a Board that reflects the diversity of our community and the youth we serve. We encourage applications from Indigenous, Black, and other racialized communities, 2SLGBTQI+ people, individuals with disabilities, women, and people from communities that have been historically underrepresented in leadership and governance roles.

You are open to exploring new ways of doing things, don't shy away from asking questions and sharing opinions, and you also know how to create space for others to contribute their thoughts and ideas.

It would be a tremendous asset if you bring experience in non-profit or charitable law, enterprise risk management, information technology, real estate development, or capital planning. However, we recognize that leadership journeys are not all the same and that traditional credentials, titles, or experiences do not always capture the full value someone can bring to a Board.

If our mission resonates with you, please apply, even if you don't meet every criterion listed.

What You’ll Do

The Board meets on the final Thursday of each month from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. through a mix of virtual and in-person meetings. Board members typically commit about four hours per month, including Board and committee meetings, governance learning opportunities, fundraising, and community engagement activities.

What We Offer

At YOU, meaningful impact is built collectively. As a Board member, you'll have the opportunity to help shape the future of our organization, strengthen opportunities for young people, develop your governance and leadership skills, and build meaningful community connections.

How to Apply

Please submit an expression of interest and resume to youboard@you.ca. Selected candidates will be invited to meet with members of the Governance & Nominations Committee as part of the recruitment process.

Youth Opportunities Unlimited is committed to developing inclusive and barrier-free selection and appointment processes. Accommodation will be made available upon request throughout the recruitment process.
