Mission Services of Hamilton’s Mission is: Restoring hope and empowering people to find their way forward. Mission Services is seeking volunteer Board members whose skills, experience and community perspectives support effective governance and the organization’s strategic direction. Recruitment priorities may include experience or understanding of homelessness, domestic and intimate partner violence, addictions and mental health, governance, finance, legal, HR, risk, community systems, fund development or other priority areas identified through the Board Skills Matrix.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Board of Directors represents the organization’s Members in determining and requiring appropriate organizational performance. The Board follows the governance framework established in the Governance & Policy Manual, provides strategic oversight, and supports Mission Services in advancing its mission, vision and values.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare for and attend Board meetings.
- Work as a team member and support Board decisions once made.
- Review, clarify and amend the mission and objectives of the organization as required.
- Develop, amend and approve By-Laws and governing policies.
- Monitor the performance of the organization.
- Keep informed about community issues relevant to the work of Mission Services.
- Participate in the recruitment of new Board members.
- Participate in Board Committees.
- Participate in strategic planning processes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of community services, including addictions, mental health, housing, poverty and violence against women.
- Commitment to the organization’s mission, vision and values.
- Availability to meet Board and committee time commitments.
- Openness to learning.
- Value and support the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.
REQUIRED CHECKS AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:
- If elected or appointed, Board members are required to apply for a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check within thirty (30) days and provide documentation as soon as possible following election/appointment.
- Board members are required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement and review/sign the Code of Conduct.
TERM: Three (3) year term to a maximum of two (2) consecutive terms, subject to applicable By-Laws.
