Drive Happiness is a non-profit organization which provides low-cost, volunteer-based assisted transportation to older Albertans. It ensures seniors who are unable to drive or use alternate forms of transit due to health, mobility, and/or income barriers are connected to community-based programs and services. This means seniors can obtain vital medical care, pick up groceries and supplies, attend recreation programs, socialize with loved ones, attend community events, and do all the things they need to live well. It also means that caregivers receive a much-needed break. Volunteering with Drive Happiness has definite perks. You choose when and where you drive, and there is no minimum/ maximum requirement so volunteering is convenient for you. You also receive a fuel reimbursement. But most importantly, you get to meet vibrant, appreciative seniors who have interesting life stories to share. So volunteering will not only help you help your community, but will also give you an opportunity to make new friends and have fun.

Volunteer Driver For Seniors

Peer Support Volunteer Purpose of Position: Peer support volunteers provide support to Wellspring members by offering information based on their own “lived” experience as a cancer survivor or as a caregiver. They also provide information about programs and services offered by Wellspring and resources in the greater cancer community. As the point-of-entry to Wellspring, peer support volunteers guide in the selection of programs based on a combination of the needs, interest, time, and energy of the member. Through check-in phone calls peer support volunteers assist Wellspring members in finding appropriate programming and, ultimately, to transition into community programming when they are ready to step away from Wellspring. Responsibilities: • Provide a warm and reassuring welcome to our members. • Provide confidential emotional and support to patients or their family members. • Listen in an empathetic manner to the members’ circumstances and experiences with cancer. • Help normalize feelings and experiences through reassurance and sharing information about common responses to the diagnosis of cancer. • Share information about their own lived experience when appropriate. • Offer tips and strategies related to their lived cancer journey as a point of reference but, not prescriptive in nature. This may include scheduling daily activities to best manage fatigue, or ways to prepare or serve foods to help maximize nutrition intake during treatment. • Share information of Wellspring’s programs and services. • Using the navigation tools, guide the new member in the selection of programs based on a combination of the needs, interest, time, and energy. • Assist members in registering for programs or accessing services via our on-line registration system. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities: • Must be 18 years of age or older. • Have a lived experience as a cancer patient or the caregiver of a cancer patient. • Be post-treatment and no longer using Wellspring programs for their cancer support needs. • Complete the Wellspring volunteer onboarding process, which includes: o Interview o Reference check o Police record check, including vulnerable sector (Wellspring to reimburse cost incurred) Training requirements: • Completion of peer support training sessions (including in-home and online facilitated learning). • Online Wellspring orientation. • Completions of three buddy shifts. • Attend bi-monthly peer support meetings. • Ongoing in-service training as offered. What’s the commitment? Peer support volunteers are asked to commit to 2-4 hours a week. While we understand that personal circumstances might change, we ask that you do your best to commit to the role for a minimum of one year. Peer Support

Wellspring Alberta is building a team of passionate community connector volunteers to help raise awareness of Wellspring throughout Alberta with the goal of building localized cancer support communities, so that no one in Alberta has to face cancer alone. Community Connectors are the voice of their local communities, and are responsible for building relationships, as well as providing ideas, feedback, and recommendations to Wellspring to help further support individuals and their families who are living with the impact of a cancer diagnosis. Responsibilities: • Be an ambassador for Wellspring Alberta by sharing Wellspring’s mission, vision, programs, and services within your community. • Build awareness of Wellspring in your community by distributing brochures and posters, attending information booths, delivering presentations, and talking to healthcare providers and community members. • Assist patients, Canadaregivers, and family members in registering as a Wellspring member and into programs. • Conduct new member welcome calls and support people in accessing resources within Wellspring and the greater cancer community. • Help build local connections and relationships on behalf ofWellspring to assist with building localized cancer support communities. • Support Wellspring programs online and/or in-person. • Liaise with Wellspring team lead to pass on identified gaps, opportunities, ideas and needs on behalf of the local community. • Assist with identifying local support services that should be added to our Wellspring additional resource page • Complete Wellspring admin processes as necessary. • Attend community connector meetings (held via zoom every 2 weeks) – required. • Attend peer support meetings (held every 2 weeks) – optional; for additional learning and training. • This volunteer position is not responsible for leading Wellspring programs. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities: • Be at least 18 years of age. • Complete the Wellspring volunteer onboarding process, which includes: o Interview o Reference check o Police record check, including vulnerable sector (Wellspring to reimburse cost incurred) • Be able and willing to operate within Wellspring professional boundaries. • A personal connection to cancer as a patient or caregiver maybe helpful for this role, but is not required. • Sign Wellsprings Code of Conduct and Confidentiality forms. Training requirements: • Wellspring orientation. • Completions of three training sessions (including in-home and online facilitated learning). • Welcome call training. • Participation in a minimum of three Wellspring programs and a peer support phone call. • Ongoing in-service training as offered. • Sign off on Wellspring Alberta Code of Conduct and Confidentiality agreements. What’s the commitment? Volunteer time is flexible based upon your availability.
