POSITION SUMMARY 

Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation raises and stewards funds to support Orillia Soldiers’ 
Memorial Hospital (OSMH). The Foundation’s mission is to support the Hospital in its quest to become a 
centre of excellence and an integral leader in shaping the future of healthcare for our community and our 
region.

Reporting to the Director of Campaigns &amp; Major Gifts, the Senior Philanthropy Officer (SPO) secures 
philanthropic support from our donor community, by engaging them in the daily life and work at OSMH. 
The DO will focus on nurturing our supporters by personally investing in their donor experience and 
journey, while highlighting the incredible work of our medical colleagues. Collaborating with an 
integrated team of frontline fundraisers, hospital staff and volunteers, the SPO contributes to building a 
strong culture of philanthropy and a sense of shared goals throughout the OSMH community. 

Key Accountabilities: 

 • Maps the donor journey for our constituents by creatively engaging, inspiring and growing their 
connection to and support for OSMH. 

 • Works closely with colleagues across the Foundation to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward 
prospective donors with the capacity to make a $10,000+ gift. 

 • Maintains a portfolio of Planned Giving donors and provides input into the Foundation’s Planned 
Giving Program. 

 • Manages the Mid-Level giving pipeline for donors giving in the $1,000 - $9,999 range, 
implementing strategies to increase these donations over time. 

 • Implement a stewardship plan for all donors, providing a customized donor experience to create 
a positive donor journey. 

 • Actively engages with a portfolio of prospective and current supporters through hospital tours, in-
person meetings, phone visits, written communications and Foundation events. 

 • Plans, schedules and conducts solicitation meetings; provides Call Plans and Briefing Notes for 
Senior Volunteers, Hospital Partners, the Director of Campaigns &amp; Major Gifts and the President 
&amp; CEO. 

 • Supports and collaborates with Events colleagues to ensure that donor interactions are 
strategically focused, donor-centric and led by the Relationship Manager. 

 • Implements agreed-upon metrics, using Raisers’ Edge to track all donor and prospect activity. 
 • Participates in regular performance evaluations with the Director of Campaigns &amp; Major Gifts. 
 • Demonstrates enthusiasm, accountability, empathy and creativity when developing and nurturing 

relationships. 
 • Consistently and convincingly demonstrates to Foundation colleagues, volunteers and the public-

at-large, the role and importance of philanthropy and the Foundation’s mandate. 
 • Embeds diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging values into all activities. 


Skills, Experience and Attributes: 

 • University or College degree in an appropriate discipline, or professional experience equivalent, 
combined with a minimum of 8 years of fundraising or combined transferable experience. 

 • CFRE certification an asset, or willingness to obtain a fundraising certification. 
 • Direct experience and demonstrated success in managing relationships with key stakeholders 

such as donors, volunteers, hospital staff, senior leadership, and external partners. 
 • Ability to work to deadlines and be flexible with changing priorities. 
 • Experience in writing proposals and other persuasive documents. 
 • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and exceptional interpersonal skills. 
 • Experience working productively and positively with senior level staff and volunteers. 
 • Superior listening skills and the ability to interpret the concerns and interests of potential 

stakeholders and translate them into attractive opportunities for investment in Soldiers’ 
priorities. 

 • Must have demonstrated work experience with Microsoft Office products including Word, 
Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint as well as Raiser’s Edge fundraising software (or equivalent). 

 • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends and have a valid driver’s license. 
 • Ability to work independently with minimal direction, while working within the framework of an 

integrated development program and team-oriented environment. 
 • Demonstrated commitment and success in working to create a fair and inclusive environment, 

and to supporting diverse constituencies and populations. 
 • Knowledge of Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, and/or healthcare fundraising.

We are looking for a Senior Development Officer to join our team at Make-A-Wish Canada. 
Reporting to the Director, National Corporate Development, you will apply corporate fundraising 
principles and processes to manage the full cycle of national partnerships. In support of the 
growth of National Development’s revenue, the role includes, but is not limited to, securing 
corporate partnerships, sponsorship, cash donations and in-kind support for Make-A-Wish

This role can be based out of Pickering or Toronto, and is a full-time, 18-month contract, hybrid

WHAT YOU WILL DO 
 
New Business Outreach (50%) 

 • Support with lead generation, prospect research and cold calls/outreach as it relates to new 
business opportunities. 

 • Assess needs and contribute to the development and implementation of prospect 
identification, cultivation and solicitation. 

 • Writing and preparing briefing notes, solicitation plans and call reports to track donor 
interaction. 

 • Develop fundraising materials such as proposals, grant applications and donor 
correspondences. 

 • Update and maintain accurate and timely prospect information within the Foundation’s 
database (Salesforce) to enable accurate and reliable reporting. 
 

Partnership Relationships (35%) 
 • Lead in managing and growing the corporate and corporate foundation donor portfolio (cash 

and in- kind) in the giving range of $1,000-$24,000. 
 • Apply grants and foundations fundraising principles to support grant applications under 

$25,000. 
 • Develop strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. 
 • Collaborate with internal departments to assist with development or coordination of 

material for donors are delivered in a timely basis, which may include social/marketing 
media, stewardship reports, end of campaign reports. 

 • Establish and provide support to National Development Team as required to ensure success 
of partnership events (e.g., guidance, materials, staff/volunteers, timelines, etc.). 

 
Strategic Initiatives (15%) 

 • Support with the planning and execution of the corporate events, programs and initiatives. 
 • Support the National Development team on major donor activations and its campaign 

executions.

WHAT YOU BRING 

 • Post-secondary education in Business, Fundraising, or other relevant field, or an 
equivalent combination of education, training and experience. 

 • 3-5 years of working experience in fundraising (events, campaigns and working with 
volunteers), preferably in a multi-level organization within diverse communities. 

 • Ability to work independently and on various tasks simultaneously. 
 • Demonstrate experience in overseeing tasks of others and working collaboratively with 

others to achieve the best results. 
 • Must be highly motivated and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. 


 
 • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable with public speaking.

carried out in the local office and remotely, however, you may occasionally be required to 
be out of the office for visits with sponsors and donors, and for other site visits and 
attending events in the community. 

 • Requires evenings/weekends on occasion.

Data &amp; Donor Management<ul><li>Maintain accurate donor records in Tessitura: gift entry, receipting, acknowledgements, and data clean-up.</li><li>Achieve and maintain proficiency with the Development database, taking courses and webinars as needed, providing recommendations on best practices of donor management, and ensure integrity of donor data in the database.</li><li>Generate and analyze reports on appeal results, donor trends, and event attendance.</li><li>Work with Finance and Development teams to ensure donations are properly recorded and reconciled.</li><li>Support data segmentation and list generation for appeals, stewardship, and recognition.</li></ul>4. Administration &amp; Budgeting<ul><li>Track and maintain budgets related to annual campaigns and donor events.</li><li>Process invoices, manage expenses, and assist with vendor contracts and payments.</li><li>Support expense forecasting and assist in year-end reporting and revenue projections.</li><li>Ensure all administrative processes align with Tafelmusik’s donor recognition and financial protocols.</li></ul>5. Cross-Team Collaboration<ul><li>Collaborate with Marketing on strategy, content, timelines, and branding consistency.</li><li>Support the Executive Director and Co-Directors of Development with donor communications, research, and proposal preparation.</li><li>Participate in cross-functional projects to help engage younger, more diverse donor audiences.</li></ul>Experience and Expertise:<ul><li>3-5 years of experience in fundraising, and knowledge of fundraising concepts, methodologies, and tools.</li><li>Exceptional communication skills — both written and verbal — with attention to tone and audience.</li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills including effective networking, relationship building, and active listening.</li><li>Demonstrated tact, diplomacy, and ability to liaise with and inspire a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.</li><li>Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and competing priorities.</li><li>Excellent project management skills, including planning and critical evaluation of an initiative and designing metrics to monitor performance.</li><li>Experience with a CRM database (Tessitura preferred).</li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential; in Wordfly, Canva – an asset.</li><li>Attention to detail with a love for both creative and administrative work.</li><li>Enthusiastic team player with a collaborative and entrepreneurial spirit and a positive, proactive attitude.</li><li>A passion for music, the arts, and Tafelmusik’s mission.</li></ul>Tafelmusik seeks team members who actively participate in and meaningfully contribute to the organization’s ongoing work to create a culture of belonging — rooted in equity, diversity and inclusion — and who apply EDI principles within their scope of work.&nbsp;Remuneration and benefitsSalary range $65,000-$75,000 commensurate with experience, plus a competitive benefits and vacation package.
