About Luke’s Place:&nbsp;Luke’s Place Support &amp; Resource Centre for Women &amp; Children is an award-winning non-profit centre of excellence in family law support for women who have been subjected to intimate partner abuse. We are devoted to improving the safety and experience of women and their children as they proceed through the complex family court system. As an organization, we provide direct services to hundreds of women and their children across Ontario every year and share our expertise with thousands of service providers through training programs, resources, tools, research, and mentoring.&nbsp;Description:The Board of Directors is a governance-structured board, as reflected in its functionality. It&nbsp;is responsible for providing governance and strategic direction to the organization.&nbsp;The ideal candidate will have a feminist, trauma-informed and anti-oppressive analysis and understanding of violence against women and will help the Board achieve its goals through their progressive leadership experience.&nbsp;We are seeking qualified and experienced feminist board members from across Ontario who meet the Qualifications and Commitments set out below.&nbsp; We are seeking a few Board members who meet the following additional criteria:<ol><li>Financial acumen and expertise, such as an accounting background (e.g. CGA, CMA, CA, CPA) and experience with budgets in a non-profit organization</li><li>Legal background, including those with a strong background in family law</li></ol>Qualifications:<ul><li>Support the mission and values of Luke’s Place</li><li>Understand violence against women, within a feminist theory context, especially as it relates to family law issues</li><li>Have board governance skills and expertise, including strategic planning, strategic leadership and risk management</li><li>Interest in growing in a leadership position on the Board, i.e. Officer position</li><li>Have commitment and skills to implement diversity, equity and inclusion frameworks at the governance level</li><li>Are representative of the diversity of the Ontario communities we serve</li><li>Representation from Durham Region as well as from across the major regions of the Province</li></ul>Commitment:<ul><li>Participation in, and contribution to, the organization’s strategic direction and planning, governance oversight and financial well-being to support the organization in achieving its goals</li><li>Advocate and engage as a public representative of Luke’s Place</li><li>Prepare for and participate in 5 virtual Board meetings and 1 – 2 in-person strategic, planning and/or professional development sessions per year</li><li>General monthly time commitment of 5-7 hours&nbsp;</li><li>Active virtual participation on at least one committee (included in the time commitment listed)</li><li>Minimum 2-year term with an option to renew</li></ul>Application:Luke’s Place, in accordance with its gender-responsive anti-oppressive framework, welcomes and encourages applications from women of all races, ethnic origins, religions, abilities, and sexual orientation. &nbsp;We use the term women to include all self-identified women, including two-spirited, non-binary, cisgender, or transgender women.We are committed to developing a membership that reflects the diversity of our province. About Us: 
 
Ashley Manor Housing Corporation (AMHC) is a Non-Profit Corporation that owns and operates a Social 
Housing portfolio of 574 rental residential units in 5 communities in Ajax Ontario. With funding and 
oversight by the Region of Durham, AMHC provides affordable housing for over 1,050 Ajax residents. All 
funding received from the Region of Durham is used by AMHC to operate and maintain our portfolio of 
communities in Ajax. 
 
Main Goals: 
 

 • To provide safe and affordable homes to residents 
 • To collaborate and cultivate close working relationships with the key community partners to 

support our residents 
 • To raise awareness and educate the community about the impact that housing needs have on our 

community’s health 
 • To meet the accessibility needs of our residents

Prospective Board members should be comfortable operating within a policy-based (rather than 
management-focused) governance model typical of the non-profit sector. They should be able to 
demonstrate a strong commitment to the Ajax community, effectively represent the interests of social 
housing within the community, and ideally, reside in the area we serve.

﻿The Board of Directors represents the leaders of our agency and serves as a working board that oversees the long term strategic vision and overall health of the organization. Directors approve the organization’s philosophy and continually review the management’s performance while working toward agency goals. The Board of Directors will also annually review and approve plans for funding in view of organizational goals. Board members have a list of responsibilities that they renew every year during the annual election at our Annual General Meeting.
