The Chair of Strategic Business and Fund Development provides strategic leadership for VMPC’s fundraising, sponsorship, and grant initiatives. In this role, you will work to diversify VMPC’s revenue sources, strengthen partnerships, and ensure long-term financial sustainability. This role will also help to develop and lead a volunteer committee that supports the identification of funding opportunities and works in collaboration with the board executive and relevant portfolio chairs for the development and submission of funding proposals. This volunteer role is ideal for a mission-driven professional with experience in business development, nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, or corporate partnerships.

Responsibilities:<ul><li>Develop a thorough understanding of BCC’s mission, goals, by-laws, financial position and board structure</li><li>Collaborate with Board Members, the Executive Director and the BCC Chair on current issues and challenges specific to BCC</li><li>Provide leadership and actively advocate for BCC’s priorities including its fundraising efforts</li><li>Lead or participate in a project or area of expertise, as agreed upon by the board (e.g. Legal, Healthcare, Communications, Fundraising, BCC Awareness Walk, public awareness campaign)</li><li>Where appropriate, cultivate relationships, promote communication and act as a front-line representative with identified stakeholders, media, bladder cancer patients/caregivers and/or the general public</li><li>Develop an understanding of the disease and the current challenges that face bladder cancer patients/caregivers</li><li>Provide insight and recommendations to the board where appropriate regarding concerns relevant to your areas of expertise and experience (e.g. legal, IT, finance, communications, fundraising)</li><li>Create awareness of BCC and specific BCC events in your local area though various methods of communication</li><li>Use personal and professional skills, relationships, and knowledge for the advancement of BCC</li><li>On occasion, attend local meetings and/or special events as a representative of the organization</li></ul>Qualifications:<ul><li>Working knowledge of bladder cancer and the issues that face patients and/or caregivers or a strong desire to learn</li><li>Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.</li><li>Ability to participate effectively in face to face and virtual board meetings</li><li>Positive, motivated and enthusiastic</li><li>Professional background in law or&nbsp;healthcare considered an asset</li><li>Bilingual considered an asset</li><li>Knowledge of current issues and trends, particularly related to health, cancer, and the non-profit sector would be an asset.</li></ul>Training Provided by BCC:<ul><li>BCC Volunteer Orientation</li><li>Board Manual</li><li>Annual training relevant to BOD position</li></ul>Time Commitment &amp; Location:<ul><li>3-year term</li><li>Unless unavoidably absent, attend and participate in all board related meetings.</li><li>Attend local patient conferences and/or meetings as required</li><li>Board meetings are conducted 4-6 times a year via teleconference</li><li>1-4 hours per week may be required to respond to emails and/or telephone calls.</li><li>Additional time commitments may be required in the weeks and/or days leading up to meetings and/or special events and in the management of projects undertaken</li><li>Additional time may be required to support committee work e.g., Board standing committee and/or initiative-specific committee</li></ul>Benefits &amp; Rewards:<ul><li>Making a difference in the lives of people living with bladder cancer</li><li>Networking with others</li><li>Gaining valuable knowledge about bladder cancer, current research, and treatment options</li><li>Further development of leadership/governance skills and experience</li><li>Opportunity to contribute personal and professional knowledge and experience</li></ul>

Join our 2026 Second Harvest National Youth Council!&nbsp;In January 2026, Second Harvest will launch its 2nd annual National Youth Council, bringing together passionate young leaders, ages 18 to 25, from across Canada who are committed to tackling food waste. This is your chance to expand your network, access mentorship, and develop vital skills while sharing your unique perspectives on critical issues linking food waste and climate change. Through research, advocacy and awareness building projects, the council will work to engage youth audiences in conversations around food waste reduction.&nbsp;As a member of the council, you’ll inspire action among your peers, through research, advocacy and awareness building projects and support Second Harvest in its goal of keeping good food out of landﬁlls.&nbsp;Who We Are:&nbsp;Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food rescue organization and expert in perishable food recovery. We rescue surplus, unsold food from across the supply chain and redistribute it to not-for-proﬁts across the country to feed communities.
