We are looking for strategic thinkers and team players that are passionate about building welcoming communities and ensuring the impact and sustainability of Together Project.&nbsp; About Together ProjectTogether Project connects refugee newcomers and volunteers to build stronger, more integrated communities. Our Welcome Group Program matches volunteers with newly arrived refugees and refugee claimants for 3-6 months of social and integration support. With guidance from Together Project staff, volunteers help newcomers overcome challenges to their integration such as practicing English, navigating services like healthcare, finding a job, engaging in education, or building social networks. The ultimate goal is the empowerment of newcomers to make progress towards their individual goals, and to provide a platform for the community to engage in that process. Together Project originated in Toronto, Ontario, and has recently expanded nationally, with additional staff and programs in British Columbia, Manitoba, and New Brunswick. Together Project is a charitable initiative on the&nbsp;<a href="https://makeway.org/solutions/shared-platform/" target="_blank">MakeWay Shared Platform.</a>Together Project’s Steering CommitteeAll Projects on the MakeWay Shared Platform have a volunteer Steering Committee. The Steering Committee is an advisory group to both the Project and the MakeWay Senior Management Team. Although the Steering Committee has no legal or governing authority, it plays an important role in ensuring Project accountability. It also contributes to the Project's health and success by sharing its experience, leadership, and technical expertise. Members join for a three-year term with an option to renew.Any of the following would be considered an asset:<ul><li>Located in one of program delivery locations: Moncton, NB, Toronto, ON, Winnipeg, MB, or Vancouver, BC.</li><li>Lived experience as a refugee newcomer to Canada and/or past participation in the Welcome Group Program</li><li>Nonprofit fundraising experience</li><li>Frontline experience working or volunteering with refugees or other vulnerable populations, e.g. social work, healthcare, etc.</li><li>Experience working in Canada’s settlement sector</li><li>General nonprofit management and/or governance experience</li><li>Legal expertise, especially within the charitable sector</li></ul>The Steering Committee's roles and responsibilities include:<ul><li>Defining Project purposes, goals, and objectives.</li><li>Strategic planning, including developing budgets and work plans.</li><li>Developing resources to ensure that expenditures are met.</li><li>Evaluating success in achieving deliverables on all contracts.</li><li>Recruiting, selecting, and supervising the Project Director(s), including conducting performance evaluations of the Project Director(s) in accordance with MakeWay’s human resources policies.</li><li>Advising the MakeWay Project Specialist of any concerns, irregularities, etc. in Together Project's activities.</li></ul>Members of the Together Project Steering Committee can anticipate the following volunteer commitments annually:<ul><li>3-5 annual meetings (two hours in duration)</li><li>3-6 working group meetings (one hour in duration)</li><li>1-2 special events (fundraiser, strategic planning session or other)</li></ul>In addition, volunteer Steering Committee members may be asked to participate in special projects as their time allows. Position Overview As a Board Member of Lily’s Place Animal Sanctuary, you will support the organization through mission-based leadership and strategic governance. If unable to attend due to being out of province, participate in the planning by joining the Advocacy Committee, attending at least 75% of those meetings, and taking on a key role in planning and executing the event. • Advocacy and Networking: Commit to introducing at least three new potential supporters, donors, or partners to Lily's Place each year and personally follow up with them to engage their interest and support. Report back on these connections at board meetings. • On-Site Support: For board members residing within 120 km of the sanctuary, commit to providing on-site support at the sanctuary once a month. For out-of-province board members, commit to providing on-site support at least once a year, and report your contributions to the board. • Continuous Learning: Participate in at least one professional development opportunity related to nonprofit governance, animal welfare, or leadership annually, and share key takeaways with the board during a meeting. • Strategic Planning: Actively contribute to the development and review of the sanctuary’s strategic plan by attending at least one strategic planning session annually and providing actionable input and feedback. • Fundraising Commitment: Commit to securing donations, sponsorships, or grants equivalent to at least 1-2% of the organization’s annual budget each year through personal contributions, leveraging your network, or direct solicitation efforts. Report on progress during board meetings. Review Performance reviews will be conducted annually through a peer review process. Join our 2026 Second Harvest National Youth Council!&nbsp;In January 2026, Second Harvest will launch its 2nd annual National Youth Council, bringing together passionate young leaders, ages 18 to 25, from across Canada who are committed to tackling food waste. This is your chance to expand your network, access mentorship, and develop vital skills while sharing your unique perspectives on critical issues linking food waste and climate change. Through research, advocacy and awareness building projects, the council will work to engage youth audiences in conversations around food waste reduction.&nbsp;As a member of the council, you’ll inspire action among your peers, through research, advocacy and awareness building projects and support Second Harvest in its goal of keeping good food out of landﬁlls.&nbsp;Who We Are:&nbsp;Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food rescue organization and expert in perishable food recovery. We rescue surplus, unsold food from across the supply chain and redistribute it to not-for-proﬁts across the country to feed communities.
