Position Title: Wellness Group Facilitator Assistant

Location: 2225 Erin Mills Parkway, Mississauga, ON L5K 1T9

Terms: On average 3 hours/week with minimum commitment of 3 months

Scope

Supports the delivery of women's wellness and community connection activities by assisting the Group Facilitator in planning, preparing, and facilitating group sessions. The volunteer helps create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment that encourages participants to build social connections, share experiences, and enhance their overall well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Wellness Group Facilitator in planning, preparing, and delivering women's wellness and community connection activities
  • Help create a welcoming, respectful, safe, and inclusive environment that encourages participation, social interaction, and peer support
  • Prepare activity materials, set up the meeting space, and provide logistical support before, during, and after each session
  • Encourage participant engagement by offering support, promoting positive communication, and assisting with group activities as directed by the facilitator

Qualifications

  • Some knowledge of immigration and refugee services and of the ethno-specific programs and services in the GTA
  • Familiarity with issues facing newcomers in Canadian urban setting and systemic barrier facing integration in education, social, cultural, and economic aspects of Canadian life
  • Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural, active listening, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Passion for supporting women from diverse cultural and social backgrounds
  • Friendly, respectful, reliable, and able to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, facilitators, and other volunteers
  • Experience in group facilitation, community engagement, customer service, or volunteering is considered an asset but is not required
  • Fluency in English is required; additional languages commonly spoken by newcomers are an asset
  • Ability to commit to scheduled group sessions and complete any required volunteer orientation or training

Other requirements

  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check
