
Waniska Training & Employment Coordinator (Female)
Funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS), the Women’s Economic Leadership and Legacy Fund (WELL) Anti-Human Trafficking, centres on the creation of an employment skills training program for survivors of human trafficking and paid work placements to support further skill building and employability. This program is grounded in a cultural empowerment and healing approach, offering wrap-around support to meet participants’ diverse needs, recognizing the widespread impact trauma has on survivors, often affecting a survivor’s wellbeing on every level, and that for Indigenous survivors, culture and community are integral healing factors.
Main Responsibilities:
Participate in the development of a culture-based, trauma informed employment readiness program for Indigenous survivors of human trafficking. Experience working with Indigenous people is critical to this role. Experience working with survivors of human trafficking is considered a high priority asset.
Conduct intake of participants
- Create a program survey with the women to develop and implement a new training/placement model for Minwaashin Lodge
- Assess the training needs of participants and prepare them for training and appropriate placements
- Serve as a mentor and coach and refer the women to wrap-around supports such as counseling, food security and cultural supports.
- Design and deliver a series of six (6) one-time events (workshops, training and skills-building activities, and networking sessions to be delivered fiscally
- Develop an exit program survey with the women to identify lessons learned, promising practices, and positive or unexpected outcomes.
Case Management
- Work laterally and jointly with Minwaashin Lodge’s Human Trafficking Teams.
- Create case files, monitor each case individually and at regular intervals
- Co-create a system with the Human Trafficking team to ensure participants are contacted and supported weekly throughout their training and placement.
- Implement a system to track narrative and numerical statistics of program participants.
- Develop performance and analytical resources such as outcome tracking templates, employer feedback forms, and follow-up and check-in logs.
- Serve as a liaison between employers and placements, responding to issues or concerns, managing potential difficulties.
- Assist an external evaluator in the preparation of a final report.
Communication
- Develop a communications and engagement strategy
- Develop a list of potential employers to contact and follow-up with cold calls, emails, and any other appropriate means.
- Devise and deliver presentations to potential employers that is professional and informed, and which highlights the key components of this unique program, and which will forge new community and business partnerships.
- Foster and maintain close relationships with new partners and placement agencies.
Administrative and Professional Abilities
- Strong and seasoned communication skills which engage and persuade potential community and business employers to host placements
- Excellent business English skills in creating correspondence, presentations, documents, posters and reports.
- Demonstrated proficiency with all Microsoft Office programs
- Punctual, responsive and attuned to the needs of program participants
- Excellent prioritization and time management skills.
- Comfortable and experienced working with a team and independently.
Other Requirements
- First Nations, Inuit or Metis preferred (relying on provisions of Article 24(1) of the Ontario Human Rights Code)
- Level 3 Vulnerable Sector Check
- Licenced driver preferably with own car
- First Aid and CPR Certification
- This position can be physically demanding requiring the ability to carry a minimum of 12 kilograms
- Assist with and participate in Minwaashin Lodge annual Anti-Human Trafficking conference.
- Attend all team and full staff meetings
- Participate in Minwaashin Lodge special events such as the annual Women’s Gathering and Winter Solstice Giveaway
- Other related duties as assigned by the Director or designate.
