
Volunteer Opportunity: Director, Research & Evaluation
Organization: The Canadian African Network for Community Advocacy, Research & Opportunities – Black Youth Justice Program (BYJP)
Location: Remote (Anywhere in Canada)
Time Commitment: ~4–6 hours/week
We are a community-driven organization dedicated to advancing the health, well-being, and empowerment of Black youth and their families across Canada. The Black Youth Justice Program (BYJP), led by CANCARO, delivers culturally relevant youth programming, wellness initiatives, community engagement, and advocacy to address systemic barriers faced by Black youth.
Volunteer Leadership Opportunities – Remote (Anywhere in Canada)
CANCARO is recruiting volunteer Directors to join the BYJP leadership team. These roles are fully remote, collaborative, and report directly to the Program Director. Volunteers will gain professional development, capacity-building opportunities, and networking connections while contributing to meaningful systemic change for Black youth and their families.
About the Role:
BYJP is seeking a Director of Research & Evaluation to lead data collection, program evaluation, and reporting. This volunteer role reports to the Program Director and ensures our programs are evidence-based, responsive, and impactful.
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement evaluation frameworks and data collection processes.
Analyze program outcomes, metrics, and impact for continuous improvement.
Provide insights to guide program design, strategy, and advocacy initiatives.
Collaborate with the leadership team to ensure data informs decisions.
Develop and implement a research and evaluation strategy aligned with the organization’s mission, programs, and advocacy priorities.
Identify knowledge gaps and set research agendas to inform evidence-based programming and policy.
Provide leadership on evaluation frameworks, methodologies, and ethical standards.
Ensure community-based and participatory approaches where appropriate, centering lived experiences.
Oversee data collection, analysis, and interpretation, ensuring rigor and cultural relevance.
Manage research partnerships with universities, think tanks, and community organizations.
Ensure all projects incorporate evaluation plans from the outset.
Provide ongoing evaluation support to program staff, ensuring accountability to funders and stakeholders.
Translate evaluation findings into actionable recommendations for program improvement and scaling.
