Volunteer Graphic Designer — Logo, Brand & Imagery

OUR ORGANIZATION

According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, an estimated 1 in every 50 (2%) Canadian children and youth has an autism diagnosis. While early-childhood supports exist in pockets across the country, services thin dramatically through the school years and virtually disappear in adulthood.

The Living Autism Foundation (Canada) is a Toronto-based nonprofit building confidence, belonging and understanding for neurodivergent people across the lifespan. Our work is organized around three programs: the

Trailblazers Gavel Club, a youth public speaking club chartered with Toastmasters International; Inclusive Martial Arts, where neurodivergent and neurotypical young people train side by side; and The Bridge, neurodiversity education for students from Grade 2 to graduation, growing into neuroinclusion consulting for campuses and workplaces. LAF is a registered nonprofit corporation currently pursuing registered charity status with the Canada Revenue Agency, and is guided by a standing Autistic Advisory Council with real decision-making authority.

THE ROLE

The Living Autism Foundation is looking for 1 volunteer Graphic Designer to give LAF a look people remember and trust. We have a strong logo concept, “The Golden Bridge”: a gold infinity loop that becomes a person with open arms, standing on a bridge. You will refine it into a polished, professional brand identity and create the imagery that brings our new website, social media and printed materials to life.

This is a founding-stage role with real creative scope: the brand you shape will appear on every page, poster, presentation and donor appeal LAF produces as we grow across Canada.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Refine our logo concept into final versions: horizontal, stacked, icon/favicon, one-colour and reversed

Create a simple brand guide covering colours, fonts, logo use and image style

Design website visuals: hero banners, program icons, a pathway graphic, statistic cards and a 2027–2030 roadmap graphic

Build reusable social media templates in Canva for Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube

Design a one-page program flyer, a donor thank-you card and a school outreach overview

Deliver all files in web-ready and print-ready formats (SVG, PNG and PDF)

Incorporate feedback from our Executive Director and Autistic Advisory Council

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERTISE

A strong portfolio showing logo, brand identity and digital design work; please include a link

Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, Figma or Affinity Designer, and Canva

Understanding of accessible design: colour contrast, readable type and clear visuals

Ability to design calm, uncluttered visuals that show neurodivergent people as capable, confident and joyful — never as objects of pity, and without puzzle-piece imagery

Openness to feedback and the ability to turn it into better work

Illustration skills and experience with nonprofit or social-impact brands are an asset, though not required

Genuine interest in autism inclusion and accessibility; lived or professional experience with the autism community is welcome but not required — we'll share what we know

BENEFITS

Creative lead ownership of the brand identity for a founding-stage national nonprofit

Your work seen across our website, social media and print, with full credit

Direct collaboration with LAF's Executive Director and Sprezza Advisory's strategic team

A letter of reference provided after a completed term of volunteering

Acknowledgement on LAF's website and social media

Opportunity to network with nonprofit, creative and autism-sector professionals Additional benefits discussed at interview

THE COMMITMENT

This is a remote position; occasional in-person meetings in the Greater Toronto Area (South Etobicoke) may be arranged

This is a volunteer, unpaid position

Approximately 4–6 hours per week for 6–8 weeks, then project-based as needs arise

This is a 6-month initial commitment, with the possibility of extending into a longer-term creative lead role

We'd like to fill this position as soon as we find the right candidate 1 position is available

HOW TO APPLY

If you fit the profile above and would benefit personally and professionally from contributing your design skills to LAF's mandate, please send your expression of interest, including your current resume and a link to your portfolio, to avi@thelivingautismfoundation.ca, with the role title in the subject line.

LAF welcomes applications from Autistic and neurodivergent people, people with disabilities, and people from all communities. Accommodations are available at any stage of the process, including interview questions in advance or written instead of spoken answers; just let us know what works for you.

We thank all applicants for their interest. Only those candidates whose skills and experience best match the requirements of the position will be contacted.
