Volunteer Fundraising Lead (Remote, Pacific Northwest preferred)
About us: Afretech's ARES Education program brings high-quality digital learning to rural Kenyan schools that lack internet and reliable power. Each ARES system is an offline server with a campus-wide mesh network, 20-30 notebooks, and projectors, loaded with the full Kenyan curriculum, Khan Academy, Wikipedia, and more — battery-powered and built for rugged conditions. Over 100 schools use ARES today, and national exam results have improved in participating schools. We're now raising $500,000-$1,000,000 to expand: $10,000 puts a system in a new school; $500 a year keeps one running with local support staff.
The role: Lead our fundraising push, working directly with the founder. You'll research foundations in the US and Canada, build and manage a prospect pipeline, write grant proposals and reports, and help shape smaller online donor campaigns. This is a hands-on role for someone who has done this before and wants their work to land in real classrooms.
Commitment: 10-20 hours/week (10 to start is fine), remote, 6-month initial commitment, weekly check-in with the founder. Pacific Northwest preferred (Vancouver, BC / Bellingham, WA area).
You bring: experience in nonprofit fundraising and/or grant writing, strong persuasive writing, comfort working independently, enthusiasm for education in East Africa. Familiarity with US and/or Canadian foundations is a big plus.
We offer: a visible, high-impact role, references, and regular stories and data from the schools you're funding.
