Name of Program: Basic Needs and Advocacy Services
Duration: 3 months and above
Hours Required: 1-4 Shifts per week (Monday-Friday; 9am-1pm/1pm-5pm)


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the front desk of CNRC to ensure all participants making inquiries and requests for CNRC services are looked after promptly with dignity and respect.
  • Handing out food cupboard items to participants according to CNRC policy.

Key Tasks

  • Sit at the front desk at CNRC to greet participants seeking service.
  • Redirecting participants according to need or request.
  • Explaining rules of food cupboard access.
  • Recording relevant qualifying and use information from participant requesting food cupboard items.
  • Accessing food cupboard to collect items requested and giving them to participant.
  • Making participants aware of other CRNC services which may be of assistance.
  • Ensuring food cupboard inventory is reviewed at end of shift and items requiring. restocking are appropriately noted for staff/shopping volunteer.

Skills and Attributes Required:

  • Friendly, compassionate, non-judgmental person able to communicate clearly what is offered at the food cupboard and the terms of use of the food cupboard.
  • Able to observe and enforce terms of use as well as behavioural issues in a calm manner. Familiarity with de-escalation tactics an asset.

Skills Preferred:

Experience with unhoused, low income, marginalized groups
