Terms: 1 hour per week; Tuesdays from 2:00pm-3:00pm

Scope

Responsible for leading an English conversation circle once a week, during which the volunteer facilitates discussions on everyday topics of interest to the participants.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare a list of potential topics of conversation each week
  • Engage participants in conversational style learnings
  • Encourage attendees to practice speaking English
  • Manage dialogue and keep conversation flowing
  • Facilitate sessions and ensure conversations remain respectful
  • Provide participants with insights into Canadian culture
  • Give constructive and targeted feedback
  • Ensure client confidentiality is maintained
  • Track attendance of registered participants
  • Report volunteer hours monthly to Programs Manager or designate

Qualifications

  • Fluent in English
  • Knowledge of Mandarin is an asset
  • Sensitivity to cross-cultural differences
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience interacting with adult learners in a class or conversation circle setting is an asset
  • Have access to a computer with a webcam and internet connection
  • Proficiency in using Zoom to facilitate an online workshop or group

  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check
