Volunteer English Conversation Circle Co-Facilitator

The Salvation Army - Toronto Downtown East - 160 Jarvis Street,

is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to facilitate a free English conversation circle as part of our “Love New Canadians” program.

This program aims to create a friendly and welcoming space for newcomers to:

• Practice speaking English
• Learn about Canadian Culture
• Build Confidence
• Make new friends!

Position Overview:
The Volunteer English Conversation Circle Facilitator will lead in-person sessions on Fridays from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM as part of a 30-week English Conversation Circle program. To support the full program schedule, we are recruiting multiple volunteer facilitators. The facilitator will support participants in developing their conversational English skills and confidence in a supportive group environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review and update the Love New Canadians teaching materials
• Facilitate weekly in-class English sessions and interactive activities
• Encourage respectful conversations
• Share insights into Canadian culture and daily life
• Provide constructive feedback to participants
• Always maintain participant confidentiality

Qualifications:

• Fluent in English
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Culturally sensitive and respectful of diverse backgrounds
• Experience working with adult learners in a classroom or group setting is an asset

Commitment:

Volunteers are asked to commit to facilitating sessions for a minimum of 10 weeks. Volunteers are welcome to participate for additional weeks if their schedule allows. This flexible structure enables multiple facilitators to share responsibilities while ensuring consistent support for participants throughout the 30-week program.

Additional Notes:
Teaching materials will be provided. Some content may require minor updates, and we welcome your support in developing lesson plans and handouts.
