Location: Hybrid (Virtual Planning Meetings and In-Person Conference Activities)
About the Role:
The Volunteer Coordinator will play a key leadership role in supporting the successful delivery of the 2026 Afro-Caribbean Thrive Conference. Working closely with the Conference Leadership Team, this individual will help recruit, organize, train, and support volunteers before and during the conference.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, coordinating teams, and creating a positive volunteer experience.
Responsibilities:
• Support the recruitment of conference volunteers through outreach and promotion.
• Assist with volunteer registration, communication, and onboarding.
• Help match volunteers to appropriate roles based on their interests, skills, and availability.
• Maintain volunteer records and contact lists.
• Participate in volunteer planning meetings and provide updates to the Conference Leadership Team.
• Assist in developing volunteer schedules and assignments.
• Support the coordination of volunteer orientation and training sessions.
• Serve as a point of contact for volunteers before and during the conference.
• Help ensure volunteers have the information, resources, and support needed to perform their roles effectively.
• Assist with volunteer check-in, coordination, and troubleshooting on the day of the conference.
• Help recognize and celebrate volunteer contributions following the event.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience working with volunteers, community organizations, youth groups, student groups, or events is an asset.
• Organized and able to manage multiple tasks.
• Comfortable working as part of a team.
• Passion for community engagement and supporting Afro-Caribbean communities.
