Paid Volunteer Community Worker Immigrants & Newcomers

Kawartha Lakes & Haliburton Integrated Immigrant Services Association (KLHIISA)

Position Summary

The Volunteer Community Worker with KLHIISA supports immigrants, refugees, and newcomers as they adjust to life in the Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton region. This role focuses on social integration and community connection. Volunteers act as key contact person and trusted support, helping our immigrants and newcomers to feel welcomed and develop a strong sense of belonging within the community.

*Please note: This role requires in-person work activity in Lindsay, Kawartha Lakes

Key Responsibilities

Social Integration & Community Engagement

  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for newcomers.
  • Support or participate in community events, workshops, and social gatherings organized by KLHIISA or partner organizations.

Outreach & Promotion

  • Represent KLHIISA at community events and outreach activities.
  • Support awareness of KLHIISA programs and services within the broader community.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Empathy & Patience: Ability to work respectfully and compassionately with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Communication Skills: Verbal and written communication in English; additional languages are a strong asset.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Open-minded, non-judgmental, and respectful of diversity.
  • Organizational Skills: Reliable, and able to manage time effectively.
  • Technical Literacy: Proficiency with digital tools such as Zoom, WhatsApp, email, and MS Office.

Requirements

  • Working in-person and able to manage time effectively
  • Participation in mandatory training and orientation sessions provided by KLHIISA.
  • Estimated time commitment: up to 5 hours per month (flexible scheduling).
