About Beta OS

Beta OS is a Washington nonprofit corporation that builds open source technology for the conservation of the endangered Southern Resident Killer Whales. We work with a collaborative group that works on the Orcasound website, where anyone can listen live to hydrophones in the Salish Sea.

The role

Our volunteer Board Treasurer keeps every dollar accountable, so more of it reaches the work. You will be one of two members of the Beta OS Board of Directors. This is an unpaid volunteer board role, about 2 to 4 hours a week, fully remote. Canadian citizens are welcome to apply.

• Review and approve staff compensation and expenses
• Co-sign our bank accounts
• Keep financial records and review monthly statements
• Advise on budgets and financial planning

Who we are looking for

• Experience in finance, accounting or nonprofit treasury work
• Independent judgment, with no ties to Orcasound leadership
• A shared commitment to the Southern Resident Killer Whales

Who can apply

Members of Tribes and First Nations in Washington, western Canada or coastal Alaska are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants must be based in Western Washington, the Salish Sea, Victoria, Vancouver BC, the western Canadian coast and its islands, or coastal Alaska.
