About the Hazel McCallion Foundation for Arts, Culture and Heritage
Creating a rich and vibrant contemporary culture in Mississauga. Established in 2008 by former Mississauga mayor, Hazel McCallion, the Foundation advances her goal to have a community enriched by dynamic arts, culture, and heritage. It funds eligible local organizations and community initiatives through grants. Its vision is a vibrant, thriving and diverse arts, culture, and heritage community across Mississauga. Its mission is to catalyze local arts, heritage, and cultural projects through financial support. A volunteer Board of Directors oversees funds raised through events such as the Mayor Hazel McCallion Gala and through individual donations.
The Foundation supports registered charities and qualified not-for-profit organizations dedicated to creating, presenting, or sharing arts, culture, and heritage. Funded initiatives have included the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra’s season opening, photography exhibitions, multicultural events, Frog In Hand dance performances, art and music festivals, and historical projects.
The Foundation is committed to equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and anti-racism (EDIAA). Strong EDIAA leadership is essential to creating an inclusive culture of belonging for everyone connected with the Foundation.
