Unpaid Volunteer Position

As a volunteer in the UPCC, you will greet, direct and assist clients using a trauma-informed and Indigenous Cultural Safety lens. In addition, you will assist clients to the correct private exam rooms, provide directions throughout the clinic, and answers general enquiries relating to the services provided, waiting times, and triage process.

Summary of Duties:

  • Check in with staff upon arrival
  • Greet clients as they arrive and direct them to the triage counter. Advise clients of closure times if applicable.
  • Answer general questions clients may have
  • Help provide internet access to clients
  • Explain UPCC process, including registration, triage and wait times
  • Help patients locate washrooms
  • Explain community pharmacy services as well as other resources in community
  • Create a welcoming, supportive, and helpful environment in the waiting area

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Able to meet and interact with patients in a professional and courteous manner, be discreet and friendly.
  • Self-directed and able to work independently.
  • Able to stay calm in potentially stressful circumstances, including interacting with clients who are in distress and interacting with clients under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
  • Able to understand and comply with confidentiality requirements.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Fluent in English, able to speak a second language is an asset.

Time Commitment:

  • 2 hours/ week. Shifts range between 8am – 2pm Monday through Sunday.
