Treasurer - Board of Directors

Eating Disorders Nova Scotia is a rapidly growing, community-based organization. We believe that no one should have to face an eating disorder alone. Each year, we support well over a thousand individuals as they navigate their unique recovery journeys. Our supports include peer support groups, individual support, workshops, professionally led groups, support for families, education, resource navigation, and advocacy.

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a collaborative and experienced Volunteer Treasurer to join our Board of Directors. This is a meaningful leadership opportunity for someone with nonprofit financial experience (or related expertise) who wants to make a tangible difference in the lives of those impacted by eating disorders.

The Treasurer will provide financial oversight and governance support to ensure Eating Disorders Nova Scotia remains transparent, accountable, and positioned for long-term sustainability. This role works closely with the Executive Director and the Finance & Audit Team throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Stewardship

• Review quarterly financial statements and highlight trends, risks, or opportunities.
• Provide oversight of budgeting processes and annual cash flow planning.
• Support financial forecasting as the organization continues to grow.
• Ensure the Board receives clear and accurate financial information for decision-making.
• Provide financial oversight and advice related to significant capital assets and major financial commitments.

Compliance & Accountability

• Work with the Finance & Audit Team to ensure compliance with nonprofit financial policies, CRA obligations, and best practices.
• Participate in the year-end audit or financial review process.
• Help maintain and strengthen financial controls and internal financial policies.

Strategic Contribution

• Chair the Audit & Finance Committee and support the Committee in carrying out its annual work plan and responsibilities."
• Offer financial insight during strategic planning and major organizational decisions.
• Support evaluation of funding opportunities, sustainability planning, and resource allocation.
• Act as a trusted partner to the Executive Director and Board Chair.

You might be a great fit if you:

• Have experience in finance or accounting
• Strong understand budgeting, financial statements, and cash flow planning.
• Are comfortable offering guidance and asking thoughtful questions that support good governance.
• Ideally have nonprofit board experience

Time Commitment

• Approximately 4–6 hours per month, including quarterly board meetings, four Finance & Audit Team meetings per year, and review of financial documents and occasional email follow-up
