
Transitional Care - Program Support Volunteer (Mon or Fri Only)
Position Title: Socialization and Program Support Volunteer
Department: Pine Villa (Transitional Care)
Reports To: Recreation Therapist Supervisor, or designate
Program Description:
Pine Villa is a transitional supportive housing service for seniors who do not have home or community supports readily in place and/or require enhanced assisted living services to facilitate a safe and successful transition to their longer term living arrangement. The goal of this service is to provide effective transitional support and care for patients to thrive in a safe community environment that is most appropriate for their unique care needs.
Position Summary:
We are seeking volunteers to provide program support for clients attending a virtual cycling exercise program at our Transitional Care site. The role includes one‑on‑one social interaction with clients, assisting clients to and from the exercise program, and providing light support during the class. This role requires lifting 20lbs bikes above waist level with regards to setting up and cleaning up for the program.
Health and Safety:
Volunteer is required to follow agency's Health and Safety Protocols included: mandatory mask wearing, hand hygiene, physical distancing and health screening.
Responsibilities:
- Provide friendly one‑on‑one social interaction and encouragement to Transitional Care clients
- Assist with escorting clients to and from the exercise class
- Offer light support during the exercise class under the guidance of staff
- Requires lifting 20lbs bikes above waist level with regards to setting up and cleaning up for the program.
- Participate in a brief debrief with staff to share observations and support continuity of care
- Promote a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for all clients
Time and Commitment
- Weekly – Mondays or Fridays – 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 1035 Eglinton Ave W
- Consider a three-month commitment
Qualifications:
- Ability to lift 20lbs
- Ability to exercise sound judgment
- Reliable and punctual
- Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills
- Experience in a group setting
- Aptitude for focusing on the needs of an elderly person or individual with disabilities
- Capacity to be patient, understanding, and compassionate
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check (after the interview)
