- Location: Sobeys Stadium, Media Lounge (1 Shoreham Drive)
- Compensation: Volunteer Position
- Time Period: Tues. & Thurs. 5-8 PM, Sept 29th - Dec. 15th, possible extension to May/June depending on funding
About us
The Jane / Finch Community Tennis Association is a community-based not-for-profit organization that is committed to operating within an Anti-Oppressive and trauma-informed framework to engage our community. We aim to work in a manner that is both productive and constructive to enhance individual strengths; and promote positive developmental outcomes for young people. JFCTA utilizes sport as a vehicle to develop the capacity of youth within our organization and community. Our programs are explicitly designed to be low-cost, and barrier-free.
What you will do
- Support students with homework, school assignments, and youth-led learning activities through small groups and one-on-one tutoring.
- Support Academic Instructor with planning and executing engaging learning experiences for children/youth beyond homework.
- Monitor student engagement and behavior, communicate any concerns or observations to the Academic Instructor.
- The Academic Assistant will follow the JFCTA code of conduct policies and ensure that they adhere to the Kids Quality Standard Guidelines.
- The Academic Assistant will report directly to the Academic Instructor and the Program Operations Manager.
What we are looking for
Required Skills:
- Experience working with children and youth in the Jane/Finch area or similar community
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with youth
- Enthusiastic and reliable, with a passion for creating positive and engaging learning environments
- Ability to work as a team and independently
- Must provide a successful background check
Optional Skills:
- Experience working within the Jane and Finch community
- Involvement in a youth sport for development program
- Passion for sport and healthy lifestyles and in working with children/youth
- Standard First Aid
- Tutoring experience for youth ages 8-25
