THE HUMANE CHOICES FOUNDATION

Student Ambassador — Volunteer Position

Part-Time | Remote | Canada | Volunteer — Unpaid

About The Humane Choices Foundation

The Humane Choices Foundation is a 100% volunteer-driven Canadian nonprofit based in Toronto, Ontario. Our mission is to reduce the suffering of farm animals, protect our oceans from exploitation, and address the environmental harm caused by industrial animal agriculture — through education, advocacy, and meaningful community action.

We are not a single-issue organization. Our work sits at the intersection of animal welfare, ocean protection, environmental justice, public health, and food systems policy. We educate. We advocate. We hold powerful institutions accountable. And we support the farmers and communities ready to do things differently.

About This Role

No prior advocacy experience required. If you care about animals and the planet and want to do something meaningful with your platform, this role is built for you.

The HCF Ambassador Program partners with student clubs at Canadian universities to amplify our mission through club social media. As an Ambassador, you are the coordinating club member responsible for managing the partnership between your club and HCF.

No university permission is required. The content goes through your club social media — where your audience already is. You will manage HCF content, complete monthly creative briefs, and report your impact each semester. In return, you receive an official title, mentorship, a built-in career progression pathway, and a reference letter upon completion.

Your Commitment

This role requires a minimum four-month commitment — equivalent to one full academic semester. Start times are flexible and can align with any point in the academic year.

Ambassadors can expect to contribute approximately 30 to 60 hours over the course of a semester, depending on activity level. This makes the role well-suited for students seeking co-curricular recognition or credited volunteer placements through their university.

The commitment is structured around monthly post minimums and one dedicated content batch week per month — not rigid weekly quotas.

Monthly posting minimums ramp over the semester:

• Month 1 — 6 posts minimum, any format, onboarding and introduction focus

• Month 2 — 8 posts minimum, at least one original creative format

• Month 3 onwards — 10 posts minimum per month, monthly creative brief required

One week per month is designated as the creative batch week. Ambassadors plan and create content for the following three to four weeks in a single session — no daily or weekly deadlines.

What You Will Do

• Lead your club's social media advocacy for animal welfare, ocean protection, and food systems change using HCF-approved content and materials

• Complete one monthly creative brief — a theme issued by HCF that your club interprets in any format you choose

• Run at least one focused awareness campaign per semester on your club's social media channels

• Connect digitally with at least one other student club or online community per semester and introduce them to HCF's mission

• Organize or promote at least one off-campus activity per semester — a community screening, a meetup, or a peer conversation

• Track and report your impact each semester — building the accountability and reporting skills employers look for

What You Will Receive

• Official Ambassador title — The Humane Choices Foundation — for your resume, LinkedIn, and co-curricular record from day one

• Built-in career progression — as you grow in the role, your title and responsibilities evolve. You will learn more about this pathway during your welcome call.

• Digital Content Kit — branded templates, caption guides, hashtag lists, and a private content library updated monthly

• Monthly creative brief — a theme or prompt your club interprets creatively each month

• Direct mentorship from the External Relations Manager within your time as a volunteer

• Reference letter from the Director of Strategic Relations upon successful completion of your volunteer commitment

• Access to the Foundation's growing national ambassador network

Who We Are Looking For

You are a strong fit if you:

• Are currently enrolled at a Canadian university or college with at least one full academic year remaining (required)

• Have a love and passion for animals, nature, and the planet

• Are an active member of a student club focused on animal welfare, food systems, sustainability, or environmental advocacy

• Are organized, reliable, and comfortable communicating professionally on behalf of your club

• Want to advocate with a community that loves animals and the environment

Bonus if you have:

• Experience managing a club social media account or creating content for an audience

• Background in environmental studies, agriculture, veterinary science, or a related field

• Bilingual ability in French and English

Our Values

Everything we do is guided by Compassion, Honesty, Courage, Collaboration, Hope, and Transparency. We expect our ambassadors to embody these values in how they represent the Foundation publicly.

How to Apply

Complete the application through this posting. Tell us about your club — its focus, its audience, and why you think there is an alignment with HCF's mission. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a 20-minute introductory call with our External Relations Manager.
