Unpaid Volunteer Position

Role Purpose:
The Special Events Lead plays a critical role in the execution of fundraising and awareness raising events in support of Food Banks Mississauga. If you are a dynamic and hands-on individual who has a passion for event support, community engagement and making a difference in the lives of those affected by food insecurity, this role is ideal for you.

Location:

Indoor and outdoor venues across the city of Mississauga.


Key Responsibilities:

Volunteer Management

  • Work collaboratively with fellow volunteers and staff to ensure smooth event execution.
  • Maintain a positive, professional, and team-oriented attitude at all times.

Administration

  • Accurately manage and record monetary donations collected during the event.
  • Follow established protocols for handling cash or electronic payments.

Communications

  • Represent Food Banks Mississauga to the public in a warm, respectful, and knowledgeable manner.
  • Encourage attendee participation and promote fundraising activities at the event.

Event Planning & Execution

  • Assist with event setup and teardown, including tables, signage, and activity stations.
  • Operate assigned activity stations, such as games or engagement booths.
  • Support the overall flow and success of the event through flexibility and initiative.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Comfortable engaging with the public and initiating conversations.
  • Responsible and trustworthy with handling donations.
  • Able to work on your feet for extended periods and lift light event materials (up to 25 lbs).
  • Availability to attend orientation/training prior to the event.
  • 19 years of age or older.

Your participation directly contributes to the success of fundraising events and helps ensure that no one in Mississauga goes hungry.

Reports to: Community Partnership Coordinator

Time Commitment:

4 - 8 hour shift; days, evenings and/or weekends.

This volunteer position is ongoing as needed.

Training provided:

All Special Events Lead Volunteers are required to attend a pre-event orientation session to become familiar with their role, responsibilities, and the values of Food Banks Mississauga.
