SOCIAL MEDIA & COMMUNITY OUTREACH COORDINATOR (VOLUNTEER)

Birthright Toronto is seeking a dedicated volunteer to help increase awareness of our services and strengthen our presence in the community.

Birthright provides free, confidential support to women facing unplanned pregnancies. We offer friendship, practical assistance, and ongoing support throughout pregnancy and beyond. Our work is rooted in compassion, respect, and a commitment to helping women navigate vulnerable situations with confidence, support, and hope.

Role Overview

The Social Media & Community Outreach Coordinator will help expand Birthright's visibility through social media, community partnerships, and outreach initiatives. This volunteer will play an important role in helping women discover our services and encouraging new volunteers to become involved in our mission.

Time Commitment

Approximately 3 hours per week.

Location

All volunteers complete Birthright's training program, which includes approximately three months of in-person training and mentorship during weekly shifts. Following training, this role may be performed remotely, with occasional in-person meetings or events as needed.

Responsibilities

Social Media

• Create and schedule content for Birthright's Facebook page
• Develop and maintain a social media content calendar
• Help shape social media strategy and identify opportunities for growth
• Create simple graphics using Canva or similar tools
• Monitor engagement and track social media insights
• Recommend new platforms or initiatives that support Birthright's mission

Community Outreach

• Build relationships with local community organizations and service providers
• Distribute promotional materials to community centres, healthcare providers, libraries, schools, and other relevant organizations
• Maintain a record of outreach contacts and activities
• Identify opportunities for partnerships and increased community awareness
• Represent Birthright at community events when appropriate

Success in This Role

The successful volunteer will help:

• Increase awareness of Birthright's services within the community
• Expand Birthright's online presence and engagement
• Build relationships with local organizations that serve women and families
• Increase awareness among women who may benefit from Birthright's services
• Increase volunteer interest and recruitment
• Ensure Birthright's messaging consistently reflects its mission of friendship, support, and compassionate care

Qualifications

• Commitment to Birthright's mission and values
• Experience with social media platforms, particularly Facebook
• Strong written communication skills
• Initiative and ability to work independently
• Comfortable developing ideas and carrying projects forward
• Experience with Canva or similar design tools is an asset
• Experience in community outreach, communications, marketing, or public relations is an asset
