Scope
Responsible for assisting settlement counsellors who conduct assessment, counselling, orientation, information and referral provision, and information sessions facilitation to address the needs of eligible newcomers.
Responsibilities
- Assist in providing information and referrals to internal programs and services
- Support assessing participants’ needs to ensure that workshops are relevant and responsive
- Research workshop ideas and topics to provide engaging and informative sessions
- Identify guest speakers to be invited to contribute their expertise to the workshops
- Participants are recruited for both in-person and online workshops to maximize accessibility and engagement
Qualifications
- An education in Counselling or Education and some experience working with immigrant communities
- Some knowledge of immigration and refugee services and of the ethno-specific programs and services in the GTA
- Familiarity with issues facing newcomers in Canadian urban setting and systemic barrier facing integration in education, social, cultural, and economic aspects of Canadian life
- Excellent interpersonal, cross-cultural, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work flexible schedules on an as needed basis
- A second language is an asset

- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check
