We are expanding our impact with projects like Keaton’s House, Ontario’s first regional pediatric hospice.
Position Summary:
The Senior Director of Operations oversees the day-to-day operations of Dr. Bob Kemp Adult Hospice, including clinical services, grief and bereavement programs, finance, administration, facilities, HR, quality, and risk management. This executive leadership role ensures Kemp Care Network's infrastructure, policies, and people support both current excellence and future growth. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will drive the operational mandate while partnering on strategic and cross-program initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic input and direction across residential and community programs, working closely with managers, executive leadership, and the Board
- Lead clinical and administrative teams and motivate staff to foster a culture of teamwork, learning, and service excellence
- Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team including, Grief and Bereavement Manager, Finance and Administration Lead, and Facilities Coordinator, Day Wellness and Volunteer Coordinator overseeing approximately 45 staff and 175 active volunteers across residential, community, and grief programs.
- Oversee program development, policy drafting, and implementation ensuring care meets or exceeds client needs, legislative requirements, and sector standards
- Chair or participate in internal and external operational committees, regional networks (OHT/OH partners), and represent KCN in negotiations or official functions
- Provide visible operational leadership across the organization, serving as the executive liaison for Quality & Risk, Health & Safety, and Operational Excellence Committees
- Allocate and manage human, financial, and material resources to meet policy and program goals, including oversight of annual budgets and independent audits
- Oversee facilities maintenance, housekeeping, and IT systems, implementing continuous improvements
- Manage vendor, lease, and service provider relationships, ensuring best-practice operations
- Participate in on-call rotation and provide crisis/issue support after hours as required
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory and reporting requirements
- Work with the CEO and Board to set, implement, and track strategic and operational goals (KPIs)

- Operational & Financial Excellence: Deliver a balanced budget, implement key quality and risk indicators, and advance KCN’s Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and accreditation readiness frameworks
- Strategic Growth: Support operational readiness for Keaton’s House and strengthen partnerships with HHS, MCH, and OHT to advance regional integration in palliative care
- Equity & Well-Being: Embed EDIB principles and promote staff engagement, retention, and well-being through proactive leadership and inclusive organizational practices
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree in business/public/hospital administration, finance, or related discipline (MBA or graduate degree an asset)
- Minimum of 5 - 7 years’ successful senior leadership in health/community care (preferably in a not-for-profit)
- Minimum combination of five years relevant supervisory experience within multidisciplinary administrative teams
- Demonstrable experience managing multimillion-dollar budgets, reporting, and controls
- Expertise with IT, client tracking, occupational health/safety, and financial management systems
- Commitment to continuous professional development
- Satisfactory criminal reference check (vulnerable sector)

Work Environment:
- Standard business hours (37.5/week) with flexibility; occasional evenings/weekends as needed
- In-person presence at KCN’s Hamilton campus (3 - 4 days/week) is required for visible team and site leadership.
- Participation in leadership on-call schedule and organizational/community events
