NABORS circles of support are made up of our friends and families who freely give their time to assist us to make informed decisions, act on choices, manage our paid supports and feel safe. Members are supported to live in the homes of their choice and be fully included in the community.

About the Job

The NABORS member that is currently hiring is seeking one candidate for approximately one or two shifts of 3-4 hours per week & located in Scarborough near a subway station.

NABORS is looking for a community support worker to be part of a team supporting a man in his mid 80s who is living in long term care but remains active in the community. Support involves assisting him to remain active in advocacy work, community events, and healthy living activities. You will be someone who takes initiative, has a sense of humour, enjoys conversation, is interested in exploring Toronto, and able to push a largish wheelchair on Toronto sidewalks. You will be able to adapt to the different environments and circumstances this gentleman finds himself when he is feeling well and when he is not so well.

Problem solving with member when facing challenges and constructing achievable self-supporting solutions for member that promote independence. Taking initiative to explore and find inclusive opportunities for member based on his passions and interests to expand community while using exceptional organizational skills to plan timelines with member, organize a consistent schedule and providing structure to the daily needs and communication with the circle and other folks involved.

Hourly wage starts at 23.34 an hour.

The Support Worker provides support by:
· Assistance in remaining active in advocacy work, community events, and healthy living activities. Friendly visiting and conversation are key.
· Assisting the member to create a home where they have maximum control over members home and environment, their activities, and associations; where member will feel safe and secure, where member can welcome friends and family.
· Assisting the supported member to maintain connections with friends and nurturing relationships. This may involve keeping track of dates, assisting with email/text replies, coordinating schedule. As well as fostering opportunities for new relationships
· Meeting/communicating with the circle of support and possibly attending circle/staff meetings.
· Support to maintain an active lifestyle.
· Supporting the member to find fun and exciting ways to participate in the community that are unique and have potential to expand social circles for member ensuring members safety

Requirements:
· 2 doses for the covid vaccine with documentation
· Vulnerable Sector Check (we will assist with this)
· Valid emergency first aid and cpr certification
· Committed to providing person-centered care in an authentic way that is meaningful to the supported member.
· Committed to working as an extension of the supported member.
· Excellent organizational skills and the ability to take initiative and work independently to set goals and priorities outlined by the supported member.
. Ability and comfort to plan, prioritize, organize tasks and work with limited direct day-to-day supervision.
· Confident in exercising independent judgment.
· Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
· Strong skills in conflict resolution with the ability to apply sound problem solving where needed.

Valid Emergency First aid & CPR (if you do not have a current one, there is a window of time to get it when you start).

The hiring is conditional upon clearing a Vulnerable Sector Police check. Emergency First Aid & CPR will be required before working.
