The Opportunity

The Ottawa RISE Program Coordinator will report to the RISE Programs Manager, East and oversee 12 youth volunteers to create, implement and evaluate a local community project. They will also oversee the local hub, lead & facilitate weekly meetings, coordinate volunteer schedules, support youth in co-creating, delivering and evaluating their community project and build relationships with local community organizations.

This role will require someone who is an excellent facilitator, can multi-task in a fast-paced environment, has a strong work ethic, is connected to the community and has a background in building partnerships. The person for this position has to be available to work some evenings and weekends. The coordinator will travel inside Canada 2-4 times per year with all expenses covered.

Responsibilities

Ambassador Support (30%)

  • Work with a group of youth volunteers (Ambassadors and Organizers) between the ages of 18 and 30 years old
  • Recruit Ambassadors and Organizers, assist in training, co-prepare duties and timelines, and track Ambassador hours
  • Support Ambassadors and Organizers, to plan, prepare, manage and implement a community project
  • Create and maintain relationships with community partners
  • Manage and resolve conflict as it arises
  • Support and Mentor Ambassadors in becoming leaders
  • Create and maintain relationships with Ambassadors, including individual check ins

Coordination & Facilitation (30%)

  • Assist in creating a space that is welcoming and accommodating to Ambassadors and Volunteers
  • Manage files, record systems, office supplies and inventory in line with internal policies and procedures
  • Keep up to date with other tasks and responsibilities outside of hub meetings
  • Coordinate logistics for weekly gatherings including food, in-person meeting location, transportation support, and community partners to support full participation from youth volunteers
  • Design, plan and facilitate weekly meetings to support program curriculum and deliverables
  • Support program and organization evaluation through documentation, reporting, and staff and department meetings

Budget Coordination (20%)

  • Manage budget for community project
  • Manage budget for office supplies, program materials, food orders, as well as Ambassador and Organizer supplies
  • Track and file purchase receipts
  • Work closely with the Finance team to ensure budget deadlines and procedures are met and implemented

Communications Coordination (20%)

  • Manage social media accounts (FB, IG)
  • Work closely with the Communications team to ensure communications deadlines and procedures are met and implemented
  • Create engaging content and grow social media following
  • Create and maintain community partnerships

Requirements

  • 1-2 years experience coordinating or facilitating youth or community programs.
  • Experience in leadership roles or capacities
  • Experience with anti-oppressive practices and creating safer and braver spaces
  • Knowledge of local youth issues and awareness of community and city's needs and resources
  • Excellent written and oral skills in English
  • Excellent knowledge of computer and spreadsheet/word processing software including G Suite and Microsoft Office Suite

Assets

  • Post-secondary education in Humanities or Social Sciences, or training and work experience in relevant fields is an asset
  • Experience developing and facilitating workshops an asset
  • Excellent written and oral skills in French an asset
