WANTED: Restorative Justice Volunteer Facilitators!

The North Shore Restorative Justice Society (NSRJ) is now accepting applications for volunteer facilitators. Successful applicants will be required to attend a 6-day training program and to commit to volunteering as a co-facilitator for 50 hours per year for a minimum of two years. Most of the work occurs during business hours.

Give victims of crime a voice! Give offenders an opportunity to understand & address the root causes of their actions! Give offenders an opportunity to make amends! Learn active listening facilitation skills!

About Us: NSRJ is a non-profit organization that advocates and supports restorative responses to crime and conflict with youth and adults. We provide a victim-centred process that aims to heal the harm (physical, sexual, emotional, financial) from crime or conflict, addressing root causes, and providing the offender an opportunity to realize the impact of their actions, make amends, and thereby reduce recidivism and prevent future harms. We facilitate dialogue between the harmed party and the person who caused the harm.

Training Program: Introduction to Restorative Justice & Victim-Offender Mediation When: 10am to 4pm Monday Dec 1st to Saturday Dec 6th Where: West Vancouver – Location details to be provided at a later date.

What we are looking for:
• Available during business hours and occasional weekends/evenings for in-person and zoom meetings
• Ability to demonstrate reflective, empathic listening and open-ended questioning
• Ability to support and relate to adults & youth, especially those in conflict with the law
• Self-aware, understands personal triggers and biases, and open to feedback
• A desire to make a positive difference in the lives of community members
• Prior training and/or experience in peer counselling, victim services, mediation, crisis counselling or conflict/dispute resolution is useful but not required
• Fluency in Farsi, Mandarin, Korean or Tagalog is considered an asset
• Preference will be given to those who reside, work or are in other ways connected to the North Shore NOTE: Position offer is subject to references checks and successful vulnerable sector criminal record check.
