Position: Residential Support Worker
Program: Crossroads Program and/or Donald G. Evans Residences
Function:
The role is to provide day to day counselling support to client residing in JHST’s two (2) Community Residential Facilities (CRFs), otherwise known as Halfway Houses. The Crossroads Program and Donald G. Evans Residence (DGER) are community residential facilities for federally sentenced adult males on a supervised release from a federal institution. The paramount goal of these programs is to increase public safety by assisting with the successful reintegration of these clients.
Staff work in collaboration with Correctional Services Canada (CSC) to effectively manage risk by addressing “need areas” that assist client’s stabilization in the community and lead productive pro-social lives.
Schedule:
Part-Time/Relief– Hours/Days may vary depending on needs of the program. (MUST be available to work all shifts weekends, stat holidays, overnights, days, and afternoons - as this is a mandatory requirement of the relief position.)
Salary:
$22.66 per hour (Salary Grade 2); shift premiums for evenings, overnights and weekends
Reports to:
Team Leader, Residential Services (or designate)
Responsibilities:
1. Be familiar with all relevant client information including Parole Board Canada conditions, offence pattern, risk/needs factors and family concerns and ensure clients are compliant with program conditions.
2. Make appropriate decisions based upon the above information, in compliance with Society policies and procedures, particularly around confidentiality and health and safety.
3. Respond to client needs during shift
4. Monitor and maintain all established program procedures and policies.
5. Respond to all fire safety and security issues during shift. This includes crisis management.
6. Complete incidence occurrence reports, as required per JHST policy and procedure
7. Perform program maintenance during shift.
8. Document all significant contact with clients, using the client daily logs, the log book or an incident report as the situation dictates.
9. Input relevant information into the Client database.
10. Medication administration, as required.
11. Develop interpersonal relationships with the clients in order to assist in the attainment of the clients’ goals, while maintaining professional boundaries.
12. Assume the responsibility for a limited case load at the discretion of the Team Lead.
13. Assist in the auditing of agency/ contractual standards.
14. Assist in review and revision of agency policy and procedures, program rules etc.
15. Perform administrative tasks (filing, word processing, photocopying etc.)
16. Remain awake, alert and attentive to client needs at all times when on shift.
17. Perform other duties or assignment as directed by the Team Leaders of residential services.
18. Understanding of risk management and the four principles of effective intervention- risk, need, responsivity, professional discretion
19. Deliver services in a way that reflects the racial, cultural, linguistic and gender specific needs of the community being served.
20. Ability to understand and apply principles of Anti-Racism, Anti-Oppression Framework to interactions
Qualifications:
1. Community College Diploma, University Degree and/or combination of related experience
2. Knowledge of community resources
3. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
4. Ability to maintain professional boundaries
5. Ability to work well with others and part of a team
6. Experience with de-escalation techniques
7. Up-to-date First Aid/CPR
8. Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance through the federal government’s Contract Security Program.
