About BIANS

The Brain Injury Association of Nova Scotia (BIANS) supports individuals living with brain injury, their families, and caregivers through programs, advocacy, and community connections across the province.

Position Summary

The Programs & Navigation Coordinator provides direct support and system navigation for brain injury survivors and their families. As a key point of connection for members, volunteers, and community partners across Nova Scotia, this role coordinates programs, supports volunteer engagement, and contributes to community awareness initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Member Support & Navigation

  • Serve as a welcoming first point of contact for members
  • Respond to inquiries and provide information on programs and services
  • Maintain and update member records, intake, and referral tracking
  • Provide referrals to external supports (e.g., mental health, housing, caregiver resources)
  • Foster a respectful and inclusive environment for member engagement

Volunteer Engagement & Program Support

  • Support volunteer recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and training
  • Guide volunteers to support effective program and event delivery
  • Assist with coordination of member-facing programs and events

Community & Partnerships

  • Build relationships with nonprofit, healthcare, and community organizations
  • Represent BIANS at meetings and community events
  • Support the development and delivery of presentations, workshops, and outreach initiatives
  • Maintain up-to-date provincial resource listings

Program Coordination & Evaluation

  • Support the development and continuous improvement of programs and services
  • Coordinate program logistics, including scheduling, registration, and communications
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate programs, workshops, and group sessions as needed
  • Monitor participation, track outcomes, and maintain accurate program records
  • Assist in evaluating programs and identifying opportunities for growth and impact

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in health, social services, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Knowledge of acquired brain injury and community-based services
  • Experience in program coordination, client navigation, or community engagement
  • Strong communication, organization, and planning skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Proficiency with databases, Microsoft Office, and virtual communication tools

Working Conditions

  • Full-time (35 hours/week, Monday–Friday)
  • Hybrid work model (combination of remote and in-office work)
  • Occasional travel within Nova Scotia required
  • Access to a vehicle for work-related travel (proof of insurance required)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $50,000 - $58,000
  • Statutory holiday pay in accordance with the Labour Standards Code
  • Prorated vacation, sick leave, and wellness days
