About Us

Since 1978, Bereaved Families of Ontario – Toronto (BFO-Toronto) has provided compassionate peer support to individuals and families experiencing grief and loss. Through support groups, one-to-one peer support, volunteer leadership, and community events, we help build connection, reduce isolation, and create communities of care where people feel supported and understood.

Our work is grounded in peer support, lived experience, inclusion, and community connection. We believe grief should not be experienced alone and that healing happens through relationships, belonging, and mutual support.

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and community-minded Program & Volunteer Engagement Coordinator to help lead and strengthen our peer support programs and volunteer community.

This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, adaptable, emotionally intelligent, and passionate about community-based support. The successful candidate will balance strong administrative and coordination skills with relationship-building, leadership, and collaboration.

Working closely with the Executive Director, placement students, volunteers, and

Professional Advisory Committee, the Coordinator plays a key role in supporting participant experiences, volunteer engagement, program coordination, day to day operations and community connection across the organization.

  • Foster positive volunteer relationships grounded in collaboration, respect, and support
  • Coordinate volunteer scheduling and communication
  • Support volunteer recognition and community-building initiatives
  • Help strengthen pathways for participants to move into volunteer and leadership roles

Community Engagement & Collaboration

  • Support community events, memorial activities, outreach, and awareness initiatives
  • Collaborate with colleagues, volunteers, and community partners to strengthen community connection
  • Assist with communications related to programs, volunteer engagement, and events
  • Participate in organizational planning, team collaboration, and continuous improvement initiatives

Student & Placement Support

● Support student placements and internships as required, including onboarding, mentorship, and ongoing supervision
