Program Support /Co-facilitator
SRABC delivers 39 stroke recovery programs in a variety of communities in BC. This Volunteer position can be one of two possibilities: Supporting the delivery of a virtual program taking place Tuesdays from 9:30- 11:30 or an in person program in Comox on Wednesdays from 9:30 - 11:30 am.
I am most in need of a virtual assistant at this time but would interview for a in person volunteer too. Some technical knowledge is important as you would be creating breakout rooms and so experience in teams and or zoom is helpful. This position could be great for a student preparing to work in health services, physio or kinesiology, nutrition or even social services. You will learn an amazing amount about what it means to live after stroke, the kinds of challenges facing survivors and the physical mental and social aspects of a recovery journey. Likewise a retired nurse, physio, OT or social worker or counsellor would also be a good fit.
The programs include brain games, different kinds of meditation breathwork and visualiztions, nutrition tips and exercise. The groups offer survivors a chance to discuss their journey and prvode support and information to the other survivors in the group (peer sharing). I deliver a fair amount of curriculum also and so the volunteer would be in a rich learning environment. I gear the volunteer placement to serve the needs of the volunteer so you can create and deliver curriculum (with support), learn to facilitate small group discussions, and to ensure that they are gaining valuable experience while volunteering.
