
Program Manager, 84 Frederick Street Programs
Reporting to the Director of Congregate Housing, the Manager manages the transitional and emergency housing program at 84 Frederick Street. They are responsible for providing leadership and oversight to the program in the region of Waterloo focused on support to the community.
The individual’s main responsibilities include hiring, motivating, and supporting staff/client’s wellbeing, establishing, reviewing, maintaining the program’s service delivery outcomes, and encouraging positive change/innovation in their teams.
They are responsible for a large team of professionals (PT, FT, etc.) including a Supervisory Team in a 24/7 environment. The individual ensures that strategic goals established and translated into practical action and relationships are maximized between clients, employees, and community partners.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide oversight and ensures the success of transitional housing programs/community centres that incorporates a wraparound service delivery model
- Manage, direct, and support the daily activities of staff (attendance, client/staff safety, performance/deliverables, targets, etc.)
- Act as liaison among staff and other stakeholders to ensure that goals are achieved, processes are improved, and resolutions are provided
- Regularly monitor and improve service delivery targets, workloads, and outcomes
- Create an environment that promotes and encourages change and innovation
- Build and support a sustainable and productive relationship with staff, management, community, and clients
- Define and assess factors that have the potential to create risk
- Ensure staff follow organizational policies and procedures
- Participate in external committees and liaise with regional service providers as necessary
- Liaise with community supports and partners (i.e. mental health and addiction service providers, and family members) as required
- Understand and be able to integrate a philosophy of person-centred care
- Ensures high quality services and client, family, and staff safety
- Demonstrate a strong quality care and service delivery based on SHIP’s Vision, Mission and Values
- Ensure appropriate records are kept and make sure that statistical information is maintained as per agency standards
- Adhere to agency Health & Safety Program and the Client Safety Framework in the promotion of client safety
- Perform additional duties as required/delegated
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Social Work, Social Services, Health Services, or equivalent
- 3+ years Supervising and/or Managing employees
- 5+ years Supporting the homeless population
- Demonstrated experience in project management, communication, leadership, crisis management
- Knowledge and commitment to the values of psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery-oriented practices
- Knowledge of psychiatric symptomology, medication, and suicide assessment and intervention
- Expertise in collaboration with healthcare services
- Experience and sensitivity in dealing with women and gender diverse individuals, members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity
- Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work without direct supervision in a team environment
- Proficient in MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)
- A vehicle, valid driver’s license, and adequate insurance coverage
- Valid Certification in First Aid & CPR
- Training in ASIST and CPI
Reporting Function:
The Manager of Frederick St Transition Program Transition Program will report directly to the Director of Congregate Housing. They will be responsible to oversee/manage program staff and will have the authority to manage accordingly. They will work with both internal and external partners and will interact with all levels within the organization.
They will be a support system, resource, and an advocator for the team and organization.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Monday to Friday Schedule Shift (Day, Afternoons) with the requirement to work weekends based upon program circumstances, Excess/overtime hours may be required where required
- Staff may be required to administer naloxone in response to suspected opioid overdoses, and must complete appropriate training to recognize overdose symptoms, safely administer naloxone via nasal spray or injection, and follow emergency protocols including contacting emergency services. Staff receive training within the first eight weeks of employment
- Able to sit for prolonged periods of time
- Able to answer and communicate telephone calls and general computer use
- Able to lift up to 20lbs (product, documents, etc.)
- Able to walk up/down stairs regularly (building inspections, site meetings, unit inspections, etc.)
- Vehicle travel to community sites, SHIP Locations as necessary
