Part Time - Residential Security
General Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Executive Director, to be responsible for security, and counselling, communications and documenting while promoting the following: ensures client and building safety, assists with activities of daily living and encourages full participation in community activities. Work closely with residential staff and community resources as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Specific Duties
Planning
a) To supervise the residents’ legal conditions of release and liaise with the National Monitoring Center, local CSC Parole Office and Peterborough Police Services in this regard.
b) To assist in the individual case plan for all residents in cooperation with casework staff.
c) To assist in preparing residents for transfer to the open community.
d) Research as necessary
Documenting
a) To maintain the general log, communication log, apartment log and resident meeting log communicating concerns, messages to other staff.
b) To conduct resident counts at a frequency no less than 3 times per shift and record in the general duty log and record sheet as per contractual obligations.
c) To monitor resident curfews, pass requirements and report any lateness to the agency duty officer and record in duty log.
d) To record in the duty log, the names and badge numbers of police officers in contact with the agency regarding CRF residents.
e) To distribute and record resident medication in the resident medication book.
f) To document any unusual resident movement or activity during each shift in the Duty Log.
g) To maintain weekly the resident chore schedule and assist staff in resident completion of weekly chore requirements.
Regulations
a) To ensure the residence is at all times in compliance with current Fire, Health and Building Code requirements.
b) To abide by confidentiality legislation.
Staff Relations
a) To meet regularly with Caseworkers and supervisory staff to ensure proper information sharing.
b) To attend staff meetings as required.
c) Work in collaboration with managerial, administrative and front-line staff to achieve organizational goals.
Facilities
a) To participate in maintaining the general cleanliness of the facility through monitoring and directing resident chores and to clean up after themselves.
b) To participate in maintaining the general cleanliness of the facility.
c) To discuss any maintenance problems with the Executive Director with respect to any of the buildings owned by the agency.
d) Make sure that supplies for the residence are stocked and maintained.
e) To conduct regular interior and exterior perimeter inspections of the CRF.
Internal Communication
a) To review daily the agency log books and communicate concerns to staff.
b) To attend and contribute to all staff meetings as required.
c) To keep frontline staff apprised of each resident’s progress on a regular basis
Client Service Delivery
a) Responsible for the direct security, support and supervision of Edmison House residents.
b) Assist residents in obtaining necessary resources to achieve case management goals.
c) Reinforcement of the rules/regulations of the facility and adherence to those rules and regulations.
d) To meet with all residents upon arrival and monitor weekly progress with the resident’s Caseworker.
e) Provide coaching and skill development to clients in a residential setting in preparation for the community.
f) Supports individuals with medications – teaching, reminding, observing, monitoring in compliance with medication safety policies.
g) Develop a rapport with residents and cultivate a safe and supportive relationship and environment.
h) Conduct non-violent crisis intervention as needed.
i) To record and monitor any equipment borrowed for use by residents.
Community Relations
a) In consultation with the Executive Director, to assist with the placement and monitoring of residents involved in outside agency programs.
Public Relations
a) To promote the residential program by means of written, taped and oral presentation to any pertinent outside organizations and institutions.
Volunteers/Students
a) In conjunction with the Executive Director, assist with the orientation, training and supervision of support staff/security volunteers and placement students.
Evaluation and Training
a) Stay current on relevant legislation and promising practices, current research, policies and procedures.
b) Participate in ongoing professional development and mandatory training.
c) To evaluate the residential program regularly and present any recommendations to the Executive Director.
d) To assist the Executive Director with an annual review of the residential program.
e) To prepare a report for the Executive Director on any courses, seminars, workshops or training completed.

Qualifications
This position calls for a certificate/Diploma in Corrections/Justice Services and/or Law and Security credentials is preferred. A philosophical and personal commitment to the Agency mission of reducing criminal behaviour through effective security, supervision and personal changes programming.
a) The skills to counsel offenders, form effective relationships and gain trust.
b) The ability to assist offenders in identifying and solving practical problems involved in their successful reintegration into the community.
c) The ability to understand and use of authority in supervision and to intervene effectively in crisis situations.
d) The ability to assist offenders in identifying and obtaining the community services required for their successful reintegration.
e) The ability to demonstrate cultural competence and respect for diversity
f) Skills in communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
g) Proficient in the following computer applications: Microsoft Word. OMS training may be provided upon availability.
