Program and Role Description: The Career Foundation’s Youth Thrive program operates both regionally and nationally, offering youth a variety of activities such as professional skills workshops, a virtual retreat, and volunteer placements. These opportunities help youth participants gain valuable skills and experiences, engage in important community projects, and promote civic engagement and social inclusion. Our national Youth Thrive program is available to youth aged 16 to 30 living in Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, or Nova Scotia, while our regional Youth Thrive program serves eligible youth living in Ontario. Both programs particularly focus on youth who identify as Indigenous or are underserved from equity-deserving groups.

This Outreach Worker/Facilitator position is part of our national Youth Thrive program based in British Columbia. In this role, you will be a key member of the project team, responsible for promoting civic engagement and volunteerism among youth and for engaging youth directly in the program through active outreach in diverse communities across the province. You will also work directly with Indigenous and underserved youth by delivering life‑skills and volunteer‑readiness workshops, as well as providing both individual and group‑based coaching. Through these activities, you will help youth participants understand the expectations and requirements of non‑profit workplaces, preparing them for success in their volunteer placements. You will also be responsible for meeting individual targets assigned to you, which contribute to the team’s overall ability to fulfill all contractual obligations with the program’s funder.

Position Type:
Full-time (37.5 hours per week) one-year contract with excellent potential to lead to permanent.

Starting Salary:
The starting annual salary for this position is $57,000.00 (or $58k if the successful candidate holds a master’s degree, full bilingualism in French, or full proficiency in Sign Language).

Base Location and Travel Requirements:
The base location for this opportunity is our Vancouver, BC office, located near Granville Street & Drake Street.

The position requires regular on‑site work from the office, as well as frequent travel throughout British Columbia to meet the core outreach deliverables of the position, including to remote areas that are not accessible by transit. The successful candidate should possess a valid BC driver’s licence without restrictions and a reliable vehicle to effectively meet these core deliverables. The position also operates under a hybrid‑remote schedule, permitting one work‑from‑home day per week, contingent on program needs, operational requirements, and performance. The hybrid schedule requires a private work‑from‑home space with reliable, high‑speed internet. A company laptop, cell phone, and other equipment will be provided.

Please note that the work schedule for this position requires flexibility and availability to work some evening hours and occasional weekends to meet the needs of the program, as well as occasional travel to other provinces where the Youth Thrive program operates.

Responsibilities include:

Community Outreach, Program Promotion, and Participant Recruitment

  • Conducts outreach to recruit new, eligible youth participants into the program, including Indigenous and underserved youth from equity-deserving groups.
  • Promotes civic engagement to youth and guides them to understand the benefits of volunteerism.
  • Tailors outreach efforts to diverse groups and communities.
  • Presents the program to youth groups, schools, community partners, and other stakeholders, ensuring they understand the program objectives and the time requirements.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with non-profit partners to help develop volunteer placement opportunities for youth.
  • Establishes and maintains new relationships with community agencies to ensure effective partnerships and wraparound support for youth.
  • Attends community networking meetings, youth-focused events, and other opportunities to recruit eligible youth participants and community partners into the program.
  • Utilizes social media channels and works in collaboration with The Career Foundation’s Marketing department to develop effective marketing campaigns to promote the program to new potential participants.
  • Coordinates guest speakers, group mentorship events, and other initiatives to support youth program participants in achieving successful outcomes.
  • Facilitates information sessions and pre-placement workshops.
  • Proactively seeks marketing opportunities to feature the program within the communities served.
  • Hosts information sessions widely about the program to increase local and national awareness.
  • Enters and maintains thorough written documentation in online data reporting systems, ensuring that files are up-to-date and ready for audits.
  • Supports program management in preparing marketing-related communications about the program, including success stories and entries for annual reports.
  • Performs other relevant duties as assigned.

Workshop Facilitation

  • Effectively delivers engaging and interactive workshops in-person and virtually, utilizing Zoom and MS Teams platforms when delivering virtual sessions.
  • Engages youth participants in workshops through interactive activities and discussions.
  • Provides individual job coaching to youth participants, encouraging them to apply skills learned through workshops, and conducts placement-specific interview preparation with each participant.
  • Researches, creates, and designs workshop materials and ensures that content is youth-friendly and focuses on civic engagement and volunteerism.
  • Builds rapport and maintains an effective working relationship with youth when presenting workshops and providing coaching during one-on-one meetings.
  • Ensures each participant understands the materials presented and can apply the knowledge.
  • Leads group work through activities both virtually and in person.
  • Coordinates guest speakers, training sessions, and group mentorship events.
  • Manages conflict or disruptions during workshops in a proactive and professional manner when needed.
  • Prepares and maintains documentation on intakes, referrals, participant attendance, suitability indicators, outcomes, and other required information.
  • Utilizes digital systems and technologies provided by The Career Foundation to further support youth participants with achieving successful outcomes.
  • Performs other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications/ Skills Required:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in marketing, business, or human/social services is highly preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct experience in community outreach, marketing, sales, recruitment, or other experience directly transferable to the responsibilities of the position is required.
  • Full BC driver’s licence without restrictions and a reliable vehicle to conduct essential work-related travel throughout BC to effectively meet the core outreach requirements of the position, including to remote areas.
  • Experience working with youth, including those who identify as Indigenous or are from underserved, equity-deserving groups, is considered a strong asset.
  • Prior experience facilitating workshops with high participant engagement and completion rates is considered a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of current labour market trends, job search techniques, and youth employment research methods is considered an asset.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills with a proven ability to develop rapport with people from all stakeholder groups.
  • Proven track record in a results-driven environment with experience meeting assigned targets.
  • Professional and courteous approach to client service, with a high level of respect for the diversity of the people served.
  • High emotional intelligence, demonstrating patience, empathy, and connectivity when working with youth of various experiences, needs, and abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills. Bilingualism is considered an asset.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to uphold the organization’s service standards, policies, and core values.
  • High ethics and confidentiality standards, with proven experience maintaining sensitive information and exhibiting tact, diplomacy, and good judgment.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to multitask to meet deadlines and achieve targets and objectives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Office 365 applications, including MS Teams and SharePoint. Must possess the aptitude and willingness to learn and work with new online systems and technologies.
  • Willingness and flexibility to work occasional evening and weekend hours to meet the requirements of the program.
  • Dedicated work ethic with demonstrated ability to remain flexible and resilient, adapting quickly to changing priorities while maintaining trust and positive working relationships.
