Description

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Outreach & Education Specialist will work closely with community partners to plan and execute various in-person and virtual awareness and educational events. They will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and coordinating awareness campaigns. Their role is to strategize different ways to spread awareness of colorectal cancer and promote colorectal cancer screening. Building strong relationships with key partners and national officials is also a component of their role which will help promote CCRAN across the country. The Outreach & Education Specialist will recruit and maintain relationships with volunteers and identify community champions to help build capacity for CCRAN’s events and encourage fundraising. They will assist with organizing and facilitating public and patient education initiatives.

About Us

The Colorectal Cancer Resource & Action Network (CCRAN) is a national, patient-focused organization championing the health and wellbeing of Canadians affected by colorectal cancer, and others at risk of developing the disease. We provide support, education, and advocacy to patients and their caregivers to help improve patients’ quality of life and their longevity. CCRAN has expanded its patient-focused mandate to now serve a population of cancer patients outside the colorectal cancer space to ultimately reduce the burden of cancer in Canada.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute CCRAN’s ‘Jumbo Colon’ events across the country to promote awareness of colorectal cancer, including securing sponsorships, bookings and Jumbo Colon tours.

  • Assist with ‘BUMRUN’ focusing on the recruitment of champions and fundraisers for the annual 5K walk/run events across the country.

  • Conduct community outreach and recruit and train volunteers to conduct tabletop displays to promote awareness of colorectal cancer.

  • Deliver awareness & educational presentations to professional, patient and community groups.

  • Handle telephone and email requests related to screening queries by assuming the role of CCRAN’s ‘My CRC Screening Coach’.

  • Assist with coordinating CCRAN’s patient-focused educational programs and initiatives.

  • Maintain CCRAN’s patient material inventory and printing needs, including outreach to cancer and wellness centres to ensure patient education libraries are populated with CCRAN’s materials.

  • Develop, execute, and analyze CCRAN’s annual Direct Mail campaign to engage community members and secure donations for CCRAN’s patient programs.

  • Identify and pursue grant and development opportunities.

Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of colorectal cancer, including screening, disease experience, and survivorship, through lived experience or professional background (on the job training is welcomed)

  • Friendly and approachable disposition, with the ability to display a high level of professionalism

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative, while also being an effective team player

  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks

  • Maturity with discretion and judgment in handling confidential information

  • Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft 365 Suite

  • Good attention to detail

  • Must be bilingual (English & French) with strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to travel 10 – 20% of the time, including some weekends

  • Must have ‘G’ driver’s license and clean driving abstract

  • Physical capability to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods of time

Location: Remote, with field-based travel. Applicant must reside in Ontario or Quebec.
