Member of volunteer Board of Directors

VHA Health & Home Support (www.vhaottawa.ca) is one of the largest providers of community-based health care services in Eastern Ontario. We provide services to seniors and adults with physical disabilities who reside in the greater Ottawa, living in their own homes in the community and/or in 9 Supportive Housing sites.

We do all this with a focus on services excellence and continuous improvement. VHA is 'Accredited with Exemplary Standing' by Accreditation Canada - the organization's highest standard for health care organizations throughout Canada.

VHA Health & Home Support is governed by a Board of Directors, made up of volunteer community members from across the city of Ottawa and Eastern Ontario region. Board meetings are held every 6-8 weeks, September to July, on a Monday at 4 pm - 6:30 pm. In person attendance is preferred by virtual attendance can be accommodated.

The Board is committed to best practices in corporate governance. Directors play a vital role in shaping the organization's strategic direction and ensuring public accountability through policy formulation, decision-making and oversight. The Board is a policy governance, skills-based Board. Through a robust nominations process, Directors are assessed for specific skills and experience. Appropriate Directors and Officers Liability Insurance is in place.

At this time, Directors with the following would strengthen the Board:

• specific skills/expertise in Human Resources (HR), Finance, medical services and/or Social Work.

Understanding of:

• local and provincial healthcare needs, issues and trends;
• legal matters
• the difference between governance and management.

Candidates must:

• be free of influence/no conflict of interest other than the interests of VHA (eg not an employee, contractor or client of VHA, or an immediate family member of an employee, contractor, client or another Director of VHA)
• be residents of the city of Ottawa and/or Eastern Ontario
• be able to exercise personal and professional integrity, wisdom and judgment
• be willing to sign a Code of Conduct annually.
