Role Overview

The Media Relations Manager will lead CCPC's relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets, helping bring our members' conservation stories and visual work to wider audiences. This role includes drafting press releases, pitching stories, responding to media inquiries, coordinating interviews, and tracking media coverage. The Media Relations Manager plays a key role in raising CCPC's public profile and ensuring our messaging stays consistent with our mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and media outlets covering conservation, science, and photography.
  • Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and statements for campaigns, exhibitions, and organizational news.
  • Pitch CCPC stories, projects, and member work to relevant media for coverage and features.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, coordinating responses and arranging interviews with CCPC spokespeople and members.
  • Maintain a media contact list and track coverage, sharing results with the team.
  • Prepare spokespeople with key messages, talking points, and background materials ahead of interviews.
  • Document media relations processes and messaging guidelines to support consistency and smooth transitions.
  • Work with the Executive Director and Collective Council to ensure media communications align with organizational goals and values.

Qualifications

  • Related education and professional experience in media relations, public relations, journalism, or communications is required.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling stories for different audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and confidence engaging with media professionals.
  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive or time-sensitive communications.
  • Comfort with remote collaboration tools (Google Workspace, Slack, etc.).
  • Existing media contacts in environmental, science, or photography journalism are an asset.
  • Commitment to CCPC's mission of promoting conservation through visual storytelling.
  • Previous nonprofit or volunteer experience is an advantage.
