POSITION SUMMARY

Deliver hot meals to isolated seniors in the community between 11:30am to 1:30pm from Monday to Sunday and statutory holidays.

Volunteers only required to commit 1 shift per week.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

1. Valid driver’s license

2. Valid vehicle insurance

3. Safe Driving Record

4. Ability to read and follow maps, directions and delivery details.

A driver's abstract may be requested at any time prior to or during your volunteer placement.

KEY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To drive, with a volunteer delivery “runner”, a pre-determined route of 10 -15 residences

2. To provide reliable and timely meal delivery.

3. To accurately follow outlined route sheet guidelines and instructions.

4. To work cooperatively with “runner” to verify appropriate meals are delivered to assigned Clients in the community.

5. To report all changes in Client or environmental conditions to Meals on Wheels Coordinator immediately upon return from the delivery route.

6. To record mileage and volunteer time.

7. To strictly follow Meals on Wheels volunteer guidelines.

8. To act only within the defined roles and limits of this position description.

9. On occasion, drivers may be asked to take full responsible for the delivery of meals in the event that a volunteer runner is not available to assist. In this case the driver would also serve as a link between Clients and Better Living Health and Community Services, and observe Clients’ well-being and environmental conditions. NO Driver will be required to deliver meals without the assistance of a runner.

4. Reimbursement of gasoline expense (amount to be pre-determined, and may change according to the route and/or economy). This may be turned back to Better Living Health and Community Services as a donation, for which an income tax receipt will be issued.

5. An invitation to volunteer training, social and recognition events.

6. Letter of reference (upon completion of minimum hours of services) if requested.

MINIMUM COMMITMENT

Minimum of one shift per week preferred between Monday to Sunday 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Casual scheduling may be possible in agreement with the Meals on Wheels Coordinator
