
Manager of Programs

YWALC supports healthy, independent living by providing innovative health and wellness programs. What is the opportunity?
YWALC is looking for an energetic leader who is well versed in all aspects of program coordination related to a Senior Active Living Centre. The candidate will have extensive working knowledge in building community relationships, community-based services and programs and applicable legislation. The individual will have both leadership and non-profit experience and will have excellent communication skills and capable of multi-tasking on the full range of organizational activities.
Major areas of responsibility are:
Manage the full complement of programs, activities and services
- Supervise and manage frontline staff to develop and ensure the smooth operation of programs, services and activities
- Develop and implement a full complement of programming
- Mentor frontline staff to ensure day-to-day operations are completed
- Oversee program staff, drivers, instructors, students, volunteers and community partners
- Oversee the social transportation program in its entirety
- Develop outreach opportunities
Project Liaison
- Participate in new project programs and concepts
- Provide project support as required
- Ensure special grant and reporting requirements are met
Staff Liaison for Fundraising and Program Committees
- Liaise with committees to identify emerging trends in programming, services, activities and (all level) government funding and support, new and innovative fundraising avenues
- Attend meetings as required
- Provide hands-on support when needed
Facility Maintenance
- Ensure the facility is safe and in working order for all
- Monthly reporting as required
- Maintain WSIB protocols
- Work with contractors as needed
Administration
- Fully conversant with YWALC’s operating systems, MySeniorCenter, Moneris, Alayacare
- Program set-up for daily activities
- Hands-on program support to all members including membership and program registrations, information and referrals
- Handle cash transactions
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have:
- Activation Coordinator/Gerontology program, Recreation Management program or equivalent work-related experience (at least 5 years) in social/recreation program/service development
- Minimum of 2 years in a management role in social/recreation program/service development and delivery for 55+ older adults,
- Excellent working ability with Microsoft Office Applications
- Strong administration, research, communication and interpersonal skills
- On occasion, willing to work outside regular hours including but not limited to evenings or weekends
- Ability to plan, organize, delegate and supervise programs
- Self-motivated, self-managing and high achieving
- Skilled at motivating, empowering others and team building
- Bondable, team player, able to multi-task
- Criminal Reference Check, no more than a year old
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and, where applicable, must have a valid work permit or study permit that allows the candidate to fulfill the requirements of the role
Nice-to-have:
- Valid, insurable Ontario driver’s license
- Second language, Spanish or Italian
Working conditions/requirements:
- Able to function in an environment that provides constant interruption and change
- Enjoy a constantly changing environment
- This position requires daily lifting, carrying, stretching, walking and standing as an essential job function
