The Opportunity

The Manager, Financial Support & Scholarships is a strategic and relationship-focused role responsible for leading the Shaw Visionary Scholars program - Visions of Science’s flagship scholarship and financial support initiative. This role ensures that youth facing systemic and financial barriers can successfully transition to and through postsecondary education in STEM.

Beyond the Shaw Visionary Scholars, the Manager also oversees complementary supports including RBC Future Launch, RESP initiatives, donor-funded scholarships, and other financial aid partnerships. Reporting to the Senior Director, Youth Programs, the Manager provides leadership in program design, oversees complex financial administration, and stewards partnerships that expand educational access. This is a hands-on role with an emphasis on building standardized, scalable systems that align with long-term organizational outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Program Strategy & Design

  • Lead the planning, design, and standardization of the Shaw Visionary Scholars program, ensuring youth success in accessing and persisting in postsecondary STEM pathways.
  • Develop and refine program infrastructure and playbooks that allow for growth and replication across the scholarship portfolio.
  • Design and continuously improve curriculum and resources related to financial aid, academic planning, and career transitions.
  • Provide direction for the sustainability and growth of all scholarship and financial support initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy.

Financial Administration & Systems Leadership

  • Own program data integrity within the CRM, ensuring accurate tracking of scholarship disbursements, participant engagement, and outcome reporting.
  • Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to analyze program impact and use data to inform strategic improvements.
  • Manage program budgets and forecast expenses in collaboration with Finance and Operations to ensure responsible resource allocation.
  • Oversee transparent systems for selection and disbursement, maintaining the highest level of discretion and confidentiality.

Partnerships & Donor Stewardship

  • Strategically develop and steward relationships with donors, funders, and postsecondary institutions to grow the financial support portfolio.
  • Prepare high-impact reports and impact stories to demonstrate outcomes and steward ongoing investment.
  • Ensure rigorous alignment between donor expectations, organizational goals, and program impact.
  • Identify new opportunities to grow the financial support portfolio.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

  • Mentor and support staff engaged in program delivery, setting clear expectations.
  • Cultivate an inclusive team culture grounded in accountability, equity, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide direct mentorship and transition support for youth recipients as they navigate financial aid and complex postsecondary systems.
  • Develop and deliver workshops, resources, and one-on-one guidance related to financial aid, academic planning, and career transitions.

Administration & Compliance

  • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes to inform continuous improvement.
  • Maintain systems for accurate records, tracking, reporting, and compliance purposes.
  • Manage confidential financial and participant information with the highest level of discretion.

  • Ongoing commitment to professional development and continuous learning.

Experience & Expertise

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in financial aid/scholarship program management in a NonProfit or education sector
  • Demonstrated success in designing, implementing, and managing scholarship or financial support initiatives.
  • Experience with budget management and program evaluation, including data-driven decision making.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities and timelines.
  • Experience cultivating relationships with donors, funders, schools, and postsecondary institutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders and support youth participants.
  • Excellent organizational and time management, attention to detail and data management skills.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality in managing financial and personal information.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and project management tools (e.g., Asana); comfort leveraging digital/AI tools.
